Arnold attended Edmore High School and Park River Agricultural School prior to his military service in the Army from 1945 to 1947. He worked in the Army Finance Office while serving in Japan.

He and Betty Grace Marion Hermanson were married November 2, 1952. They lived in California the first year of their marriage and Arnold worked at Boeing Aircraft. They were the parents of two children Vickie Ann married to Gene Froehlich of Kenyon, MN and Karl Lars Ingulsrud of Edmore.

Arnold and Betty farmed for many years just two miles northeast of the home farm. Arnold was the treasurer of the Prospect School Board. He also served on the Derrick Farmers Elevator Board, the Prospect Township Board (served as president for many years) and the Ramsey County Farmers Union Board. He was involved with the church as a Sunday School teacher and served on the search committee for several years and was the spiritual leader for his family.

Arnold had an engineering mind and often came up with creative solutions to problems or a better way of doing things. Both he and Betty enjoyed collecting antiques and he loved showing his collections to visitors. He loved to play cards, dance, write poems and to laugh. Betty passed away after a long bout with cancer on May 8, 1992 and is buried at the Storlie Cemetery, Hampden.

On June 19, 1995, Arnold married Myriam Williams of Rapid City, SD. They for many years spent the summers on the farm and winters in Mesa, AZ, but recently Mesa year round.
