Jerry A. Longie, 50 of Warwick, ND died on Thursday afternoon, February 10, 2005 at Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake.

Funeral Services for Jerry will be held on Wednesday, February 16, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at Dakotah Oyate Lutheran Church, rural Tokio, ND. Pastor Larry Thiele will officiate and burial will be in the Dakotah Oyate Lutheran Cemetery. A Wake and Prayer Service will be held at the Dakotah Oyate Lutheran Church on Tuesday, February 15, 2005 beginning at 5:00 p.m. Serving as Pallbearers will be: Henry Neeland, Tony Auginaush, Art Thompson, Cory Christofferson, Roy Guinn and Jake Waker. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Donald Bush, Lincoln Redroad, Catherine Thompson, Kim Neeland, Lenny Neeland, Jeremy Neeland, Anne Stevens, Daniel Stevens, William Stevens and Mike Neeland Music will be provided by the Bearshield Singers and Tony and Vina McDonald. Jerry A. Longie was born on June 13, 1954 at Devils Lake, ND the son of Donald and Caroline (Ross) Longie. He attended elementary school in Tokio, Warwick and the Wahpeton Indian School and returned to the Warwick High School. He also attended the United Tribes Technical College and received his certification in Law Enforcement. He later attended Dartmouth College on a scholarship. He worked most of his life in security working for the Spirit Lake Tribe, at the Missile Base in Nekoma, ND and also for the Spirit Lake Casino and Resort. He was a truck driver for the Recycling Center in Tolna for a time. Jerry also resided with Sharon Neeland in Bagley, Minnesota for 20 years where he had taken care of his six children, his mother and extended family friends for many years. He most recently worked as a caretaker at the Tribal Farm in rural Warwick until illness forced him to retire. Jerry was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also spent much of his spare time as a Fancy Dancer at pow-wows when he was younger. Jerry is survived by his seven children: Derek Longie and Waylon Longie of Warwick Curtis Longie and Jerome Neeland of Bagley, Minnesota Amy Redfox, Fort Totten Angela Neeland and Cheyenne Neeland both of Bagley Grandchildren: Mercede Longie, Jerrick Neeland, Jared Auginaush, Zachery Neeland, Kayleigh Arthur, Terry Arthur, Jr., Kainon Arthur and many other grandchildren. Brothers: Gary Longie, Sr. and Kenny Longie, Sr. both of Tokio Sisters: LaVonne Feather, Warwick Donna Stephens, Cedar Rapids, Iowa Wilma Longie, Poplar, Montana Many Nieces and Nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Anthony Lee Longie; brothers, Donald Ray Longie, Darrell James Longie, Claude Fitzgerald Longie and Fitzgerald Lee Longie; nephews, Donald Ray Longie and Steven Longie; niece, Lynette Slowbear.
