Herminia F. (Owlboy) Belgarde, “Cante’ Wasté Win” meaning, “She Walks with a Generous Heart Woman”, 90, lifelong resident of St. Michael, ND began her journey to the Spirit World on Thursday, November 28, 2013 at Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake surrounded by her loving family.
The Wake Services for Herminia will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2013 at the St. Michael Recreation Center. The procession will leave the Wal-Mart Parking lot at 2:00 p.m. Herminia will be carried to her home in St. Michael by her grandson Terry Belgarde, where she will spend an hour with family. Then she will be carried by her brother Francis Owlboy Sr.’s horse drawn wagon to the St. Michael Recreation Center. The Prayer Service will begin at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday.
The Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Friday, December 6th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church with Father Brian Moen and Father John Cavanaugh concelebrating the Mass. Herminia will be laid to rest in St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery.
Active Casket Bearers at Herminia’s home are her grandsons, Allen Alberts II, Everette Thompson, Peter Belgarde and her great grandsons, William Black Jr., Anthony St. John-Philbrick, Koltyn TwoBears, Jarin Alberts and Zachary LittleWind.
Active Casket Bearers at St. Michael Recreation Center are Louis Chaske, Phillip Longie Sr., Gary Geske, Francis Redroad, Robert Charboneau Sr., Paul Driver Jr., Frank Jason Greene, Denver LittleWind, Reuben Crow Feather, Allen Longie and Ernest Running Jr.
Herminia Florence Owlboy was born on December 23, 1922 in Fort Totten, ND, the oldest child and daughter of Thomas and Nancy (Jackson) Owlboy.
Herminia was united in marriage to Peter Belgarde Sr. in 1947 at Minnewaukan. To this union ten children were born.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Society and lifelong member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church.
Herminia is survived by her children Joyce (Frank) Green, Imogene Belgarde, Arlene Demarce, Joanne Belgarde, Larry Belgarde and Audrey Belgarde; thirteen grandchildren; thirty-five great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; brother Francis Owlboy Sr.; stepchildren Beatrice Joramo, Lillie Owlboy, Donald Belgarde Sr. and Peter Belgarde Jr.; adopted sister Lillian Shaw; adopted daughters Denise Foote DeMontigny, Donna Eaglestaff Jetty and Tammy Newgard Eback; adopted sons Robert Charboneau Sr., Cecil Longie Sr. as well as many nieces, nephews and relatives.
Herminia was preceded in death by her husband Peter Belgarde Sr., her daughters Baby Marie, Anna Mae, Theresa, Marie and her son Leander “Beeman”; her parents Thomas and Nancy; her sisters Sarah Wilson and Helen Redroad as well as many other relatives.
