Earl B. Marshall, 91, of Devils Lake, ND died early Wednesday morning, December 8, 2004 at Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, December 13, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home Chapel, Devils Lake. Rev. Marvin Winstryg will officiate and burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery. Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Serving as Pallbearers will be: Ray Strong, Joe Leiphon, Earl Besse, Phil Langerud, Donovan Herman and Scott Privratsky. Earl Bryson Marshall was born on June 4, 1913 at Livingston, Montana the son of Shirley and Jesse Marshall. In his early life, Earl lived in Lincoln, NE and various cities in Colorado. Earl graduated from Hastings College in Hastings, Nebraska. He also attended the University of North Dakota where he earned a Masters Degree in Education in 1966. Earl’s first teaching experience was at Norman, Nebraska. On December 13, 1940, Earl was united in marriage to Mildred E. Warnke and their son, Larry was born on April 9, 1944. In 1942 he and Mildred moved to St. Louis where Earl worked with the Army Ordinance Testing Facility. When World War II ended Earl began teaching at Devils Lake Central High School and taught there for 32 years. Earl was a member of First United Methodist Church and a Life Member of the Kiwanis Club where he served as President and Secretary of the organization. In 2002 he received the Kiwanis International Appreciation Award. In 1998 Earl received the Unsung Hero Award and in 1971 he received the Outstanding Teacher Award for the State of North Dakota from the American Industrial Arts Association. In 2004 Earl was inducted into the Teacher Hall of Fame sponsored by the Devils Lake Public Schools Association. Earl was a beloved husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by all. Earl is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mildred Son and Daughter-In-Law: Larry and Alicia Marshall of San Diego, California Three Grandchildren: Stephen James Marshall of Mesa, Arizona Twins, Sandra Mello of Marysville, California and Susan Marie Marshall of Long Beach, California Brothers: Warren Marshall and Clark Marshall of Florida Sisters: Elizabeth “Betty” Eisele, Boise, Idaho Kathryn Byerrum, Yakima, Washington He was preceded in death by his parents.
