Russell M. Weed, 45 of Minnwaukan, ND died on Thursday, November 11, 2004, rural Minnewaukan as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, November 15, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake. Fr. C.F. Wilhelm will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home Chapel, Devils Lake on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Monday will be at the church one hour prior to the Mass. Serving as Pallbearers will be: Brett Johnston, Mathew Weed, Riley Weed, Ronnie Thompson, Corey Erickson, and Norman Howard. Music will be cared for by: Rhonda Howard and Rita Halvorson, Vocalist, Fay Huffman, Accompanist and JoDee Lagein, Organist. Reading of the Scriptures will be done by Brett Johnston Gift Bearers will be Brandi and Amy Weed Russell Monroe Weed was born on March 4, 1959 at Devils Lake the son of Raymond and Carol J. (Webster) Weed. He was raised and educated in the Minnewaukan area, graduating from Minnewaukan High School in the class of 1978. He then worked at Pung’s Hardware and also worked for several area farmers. He then went to work for the Benson County Highway Department where he has been employed for over 23 years. Russell was at one time married to Jill Hanson. Russell was a baptized and confirmed member of St. James Catholic Church, Minnewaukan and a member of the Devils Lake Elks Lodge. He has also served on the Riggin Township Board for several years. Russ loved the outdoors and every kind of hunting. He was an excellent cook and shared his culinary skills with friends and family. Russell is survived by his two children: Mitch Weed and Brittany Weed both of Minnewaukan Grandson: Cade M. Weed Parents: Ray and Carol Weed also of Minnewaukan Grandmother: Helena Webster, Devils Lake Brothers and Sisters-In-Law: Daniel and Judy Weed, Devils Lake Dennis and Shelly Weed, Minnwaukan Michael and Becky Weed, Davenport, ND Nephews: Brett Johnston, Mathew Weed and Riley Weed Nieces: Brandi Weed and Amy Weed Special Friend: Lori Howard, Minnewaukan Many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Vera and Monroe Weed and Russell Webster.
