Joseph J. “Joe” Voeller, 79 of Devils Lake formerly of Churchs Ferry and Rolette, ND died on Friday afternoon, February 11, 2005 at Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, February 16, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake. Fr. C. F. Wilhelm will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Tuesday, February 15, 2005 from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 5:30 p.m. The Rosary will be led by Julius Senger. Visitation on Wednesday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass. Honorary Pallbearers are all of Joe’s many good friends. Active Pallbearers will be: Al Weeks, Shane Diseth, Greg Miller, Bob “Bobby G.” Gunderson, Danny Heisler, Rodney Smith, Julius Senger, Kyle Olson and Larry Bingaman. Music will be cared for by Sherry Kurtz and JoDee Lagein. Joseph J. Voeller was born on June 13, 1925 at Fillmore, ND the son of John and Magdalena (Heisler) Voeller. He was reared and educated at Fillmore. He worked on the farm with his father for several years. Joe was united in marriage to Bertha Nagel on June 11, 1945 at Esmond, ND. They established their home on a farm at rural Esmond where Joe owned and operated the Selz Bar. In 1949, they moved to Pontiac, Michigan where Joe worked in an automobile factory for several years. In 1951, they returned to North Dakota where they lived, worked and raised their family. He worked for 7 years at Otter Tail Power Company and later worked as a bartender at Ye Olde Tavern both of Devils Lake. In 1962 they moved to Rolette and Joe worked at the Rolette Bar. In 1965 they became the owners and operaters of the J & B Bar in Churchs Ferry until 1978 when they returned to Rolette and bought the Rolette Bar. Joe retired in 1980 and in 1993 they moved to Sunwest Acres where they made their home through the years. Bertha died on June 3, 1996. Since moving to Devils Lake, Joe has worked at Ye Olde Tavern and had just recently retired due to ill health. Joe had such a love for people and his family. He considered every one of his patrons to be a friend. The family sends their love and caring thoughts to all of Joe’s friends and patrons he has served through the years. Joe is survived by his Daughters and Sons-In-Law: Darlene and Thomas Lindholm, Sierra Vista, Arizona Rita and Bob Norek, Watertown, Wisconsin Son: Gary Voeller, Jacksonville, Florida Grandchildren: Shaun Bingaman, Bismarck, ND Sheri Bingaman, Sierra Vista, AZ Justin Boucher, Milwaukee, Wisconsin Jason Boucher, Fargo, ND Three Great Grandchildren Sisters: Arlene Anderson and Alma Pulst of Devils Lake Special Friend: Ruth Erickson, Devils Lake Many Nieces and Nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bertha; a great grandson; two brothers and a sister.
