Albert E. Peebles, 87 of Devils Lake formerly of Calvin, ND passed away on Wednesday evening, June 19, 2019 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks. 

Albert Ernest Peebles was born on September 13, 1931 at Lake City, Iowa the son of Floyd and Gladys (Porter) Peebles.  He grew up in Lake City and attended the School for the Deaf in Council Bluffs, Iowa.  When Albert was 10 years old, the family moved to a farmstead at rural Calvin, ND and Albert attended the North Dakota School for the Deaf in Devils Lake, graduating with the class of 1952.  After graduation, Albert worked with his Dad on the family farm and eventually took over the farming operation. 

Albert was united in marriage to Marilyn “Jean” McLeod on October 6, 1962 at Milton, North Dakota. They established their home on the farm, where they lived, worked side by side and raised their family.  Along with farming, Albert owned and operated an Upholstery Business and was involved in many carpentry projects.

In 1991 Albert and Jean moved to Devils Lake and worked various jobs in the Lake Region.  He began working at the School for the Deaf as a Shuttle Bus Driver for the out-of-town students and was the Shop Teacher for 14 years, retiring in 2007. 

After retirement, Albert stilled enjoyed many wood working projects, and had more time to spend cheering on the Minnesota Twins, Minnesota Vikings and the Golden State Warriors.   He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, enjoyed membership and the activities of the Calvin Commercial Club and was a past president, the Masonic Temple at Sarles and the Scottish Rite and Eagles Club in Langdon.  He also was a member of the North Dakota Association of the Deaf and in 2015 was inducted into the ND School for the Deaf Athletic Hall of Fame for Basketball. 

His courage and fortitude to overcome the adversities of life is the legacy he leaves to his family whom he loved with all his heart. 

Albert is survived by his loving family. His wife of 56 years, Jean; daughter Nancy Peebles, Devils Lake; sons Daniel Peebles, Hawley, MN and Chuck (Lana) Peebles, Calvin; grandchildren Derek (Brittany) Phelps, Gary Phelps, and Benjamin Phelps (Ali)-Jenna Askelson, Cierra Askelson, Daniel “DJ” Peebles and Wyatt Peebles-Dilan Peebles, Chase Peebles and Marisa Peebles; great grandsons Evan and Kyser; Brother-in-law Floyd (Doreen) McLeod of Cavalier, ND and many beloved nieces, nephews and their families. 

He was preceded in death his parents. 

Albert’s Grandchildren will be Casket Bearers and the Great Grandchildren are Honorary Bearers.

Funeral Services for Albert will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Devils Lake with Reverend Michael Suelzle officiating.  Albert will be laid to rest in the Corinthian Cemetery, rural Calvin, ND. 

Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Monday, June 24th from 4:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. and will continue on Tuesday at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.

Albert is in the care of the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake.
