Alfred Leon Longie Jr. “Freddie/Rico” began his journey to the Spirit World on Friday, August 8, 2025 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND. He was born on October 7, 1970 in Devils Lake, the son of Patricia Christianson and Alfred Longie Sr. He was 54 years old.
He lived with his mother at various places in his younger years. He attended Four Winds School and Job Corp at Clearfield, Utah. He continued his education at United Tribes in Bismarck, ND. When living on the Spirit Lake Nation, he earned his certification as a carpenter from Cankdeska Cikana Community College at Fort Totten.
Freddie was so proud to serve as a Spirit Lake Fire Fighter and also as a First Responder.
Freddie was a kind, generous, fun loving person. He was always willing to help someone in need. He loved to cook and entered several Chili Cooking Contests. He took 2nd Place at the Chili Cook-Off at the Spirit Lake Casino and Resort.
Freddie has left us much too soon. He will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. May our precious son, dad, grandpa, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and dearest friend rest in peace.
Freddie is survived by his dad Alfred “Lemon” Longie; children; grandchildren; sisters and brothers Althea “Sona” Longie, Welder Christianson, Vanessa Rewes, Cheryl Ironhawk, Liza Longie, Josephine Longie, Antoine Longie, Ervinetta Killsplenty and Sam McKay; aunts and uncles Mildred McKay, Celeste Herman, Clarice (Josie) Lawrence, Valerie (Lawrence) Bull, Andrea (Roger) Ironshield, Roger Yankton Sr., Quentin Yankton, James Yankton, Reese Mense; special family John Jetty, Shane Peltier, Lisa Burdick, Jaime Burdick, Ashley Greene McKay and Crystal McKay; many nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
He was preceded in death by his mother Pat, daughters Heaven Longie and Mickaela Sapphire TwoHearts, brother Clark Longie.
Casket Bearers will be Charles BlackBird, Sam McKay, Frank Gourd, Jaime Burdick Sr., William Tomahawk, and Randy Snell.
Honorary Bearers are Hyllis Dauphinais, Pastor Paul Young, the Burdick family, the McKay family, the Killsplenty family and many more dear friends and family.
The Wake and Prayer Service will be held on Monday, August 18, 2025 beginning at 5:00 p.m. at the Crow Hill Recreation Center, rural Fort Totten with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Service for Freddie will be on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. also at the Crow Hill Recreation Center. Burial will be in St. Jerome’s Cemetery, Crow Hill.
