Alvin Bear, 62 of Fort Totten, ND began his journey to the Spirit World on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at Valley Senior Living Center in Grand Forks, ND.
There will be a wake for Alvin on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, beginning at 5:00 p.m. at the Tekakwitha Center, St. Michael ND with a time of prayer and remembrance at 7:00 p.m. The procession to St. Michael will leave on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. from City Plaza, Devils Lake.
Funeral Services for Alvin will be in Thursday, September 4, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. also at the Tekakwitha Center with Reverend Paul Schuster officiating. Burial will be in the Bdecan Presbyterian Cemetery, rural Tokio, ND.
Alvin is in the care of the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake, ND
Alvin Benedict Bear, son of Henry and Margaret (Ross) Bear began his earthly journey on August 2, 1963, in Fargo, ND. He grew up on the Spirit Lake Nation and would call it home his entire life. He attended Warwick Public School.
Alvin worked a variety of jobs in the Fort Totten area where he lived through the years. He worked at Four Winds School, Dakota Tribal Industries, Sioux Manufacturing Corporation and for the Spirit Lake Tribe.
Alvin loved the outdoors where he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He had a talent for fixing cars and enjoyed spending time at the Casino, seeing family and old friends and making new ones.
Alvin always had a smile for everybody. Alvin’s kindness and that smile will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Alvin is survived by his wife Lavern Feather Bear; sisters Doris Longie, Sonya Knox, Anita Bear, and Diane Jackson; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and the many who called him grandpa.
He joined in the Spirit World his mother and father Margaret and Henry, grandpas James Ross and Wilfred Peoples, grandma Lucy Duta Peoples, sisters Silvia Taylor, Belinda Bear Longie, and Alva Marie Bear, brothers Jerome Bear, James Bear, Michael Bear, Nathan Jones and Solomon Ross, aunts Sherry Longie and Betty Taylor, uncle Mathias Taylor and other beloved relatives.
Active Pallbearers: Elwayne Green, Dale Waanatan, Robert A. Green, Alonzo Green, Todd Belgarde, Arthur Richotte, Robert Richotte Jr., and Curtis Feather.
Honorary Pallbearers: Vincent Shaw Sr. and family, Alberta Dunn and family, Ben Dubois, Dean Dunn, June, Sheila and Darla Blueshield, Bernadine WhiteShield, Trinity Richotte, Dave Longie, Todd Richotte, Sheila Littleghost, Kim ThreeIrons, Freda Dunn, Coleen Alberts, Susan Leftbear, Roger Yankton Sr., Josie and Clarice Lawrence, and Sam Merrick Sr. If we forgot to name someone, please forgive us, it was not intentional. Alvin loved you all.
Music will be provided by Lake Region Drum Group and any Drum Groups or Singers are welcome to share their songs in memory of Alvin.
