Ardis Roed

Ardis “Ardy” Roed, 94, formerly of Devils Lake, passed peacefully on Sunday, May 8, 2022 at Eventide Senior Community, Fargo, ND.

Ardy was born February 11, 1928 in rural Churchs Ferry, ND to Albert and Mildred (Nestegard) Bye.  She attended a country school for 8 years, high school in Leeds, ND and graduated from Devils Lake Central High School with the Class of 1946.

Ardy attended E.R.T.I. Business School in Minneapolis and worked at Northwestern National Life Insurance Company.  On June 17, 1950, she was united in marriage to Don Roed at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake.

Ardy worked at a number of jobs during the 50’s in both Devils Lake and also Long Beach, CA.  In the 60’s she worked at Devils Lake Central High School as the Senior High Principal’s (Mr. Lester Nyhus) secretary for almost 18 years. After working at Central High School, Ardy began working at the Dakota Boys Ranch and worked there for 17 years before retiring in 2008.  Ardy was very proud of her work and enjoyed each and every position and job that she had.

Ardy was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Pioneer Daughters, the VFW Auxiliary and the Town and Country Club.  She enjoyed golf, bowling and playing bridge with her lifelong friends from Devils Lake.  She and Don enjoyed traveling to the Southwest in the 90’s and her lifelong dream was realized in 1999 when she traveled to Europe with her daughters and niece, Linda Johnson.

Ardy was a very loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  She enjoyed following the activities they were all in with pride and joy.  She moved to Burnsville, MN in 2008 and then back to her beloved North Dakota in 2017 to an assisted living community in Fargo.  She had a long, almost fairy tale life that she would live all over again if she could.  Her family will all miss her so very much.

Ardy is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Shelley and Larry Palmer, Otsego, MN and Camie and Martin Pfeifer, Moorhead, MN; grandchildren Chad (Wendy) Palmer, Darcy (Fred) Van Bergen, Cory (Sarah) Schmidt, Kelly (Katie) Schmidt, Jason (Jessica) Palmer; 13 great grandchildren; brother Cord (Jean) Bye, Okatie, SC and many nieces, nephews and their families.

She was preceded in death by her husband Don; sister Ardel Tweten; brother and sister-in-law Darrel and June Bye; and her parents.

We will celebrate her life on Friday, May 13, 2022 at 11:00 am at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Reverend Trudy Dumont officiating.  Burial will be at the Devils Lake Cemetery, immediately following the funeral service.

Pallbearers for Ardy will be her grandchildren Chad Palmer, Darcy Van Bergen, Jason Palmer, Cord Schmidt and Kelly Schmidt and great grandson Madden Palmer.  Honorary Bearers will be her great grandchildren Alexandria, Max, Mason, Isla, Brenna, Lucia, Easton, Solveigh, Greta, Eli, Bria and Bode.  Music will be provided by Alexandra Palmer, Rick Senger and Barbie Shipley, and reading Scripture will be Isla Van Bergen.
