Barbara J. Arndt

Barbara J. Arndt, 68 of Oberon ND passed away on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks ND.

Funeral Services are on Friday, December 3, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church, Oberon with burial in the Hillside Cemetery, rural Oberon. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 2^nd at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a time of sharing and remembrance at 7:00 p.m.

Barbara Jean Nielsen was born on April 21, 1953, at Devils Lake ND the daughter of Clarence and Mable (Sylling) Nielsen. She grew up on the family farm at rural Oberon. She graduated from Oberon High School with the class of 1971. She continued her education at the Wahpeton State School of Science obtaining an Associate of Arts Degree in Social Work. She then began a 47-year career with Benson County Social Services in Minnewaukan ND. Many of those years with Benson County she served as an eligibility specialist.

Barbara was united in marriage to Mark Arndt on November 3, 1973, at the Calvary Lutheran Church. They established their home in Oberon and lived, worked, and raised their family. Mark died on October 9, 1989, and Barbara continued to live in their home until her passing.

Barbara was all about service. She was a baptized, confirmed, life member of Calvary Lutheran Church. She served her clients and her communities, which included both Oberon and Minnewaukan with a passionate heart. If she saw a need in the community, she did whatever she could to help. When she saw a family in grief or challenging times, she was there with groceries and supplies to help them get through the next days and weeks. Barbara was a phenomenal gift giver with a unique talent when it came to shopping. She had an eye for choosing the gift that would absolutely suit that person’s needs or taste.

Barbara was the tomboy of the family. She loved being outdoors helping with all the farm chores, riding horseback, gardening and just enjoying the beauty of nature. She was a Country Western fan and traveled throughout the state attending concerts and events.

Barbara loved life, her family, her dear friends and neighbors and her Lord. She will be so very missed.

Her loving family include her daughter Darla Arndt (Chad Campau) of Minot ND; Mark’s daughter Kimaree Arndt; sister Kathy Knatterud, Maddock ND, brother Ken (Arlys) Nielsen, Park River ND; three nephews, one niece and her precious granddog babies Binx and Tana.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother-in-law Wayne Knatterud.
