Bruce William Stewart

Bruce W. Stewart, 69, a life-long resident of Southam, ND passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND.

Bruce William Stewart was born on October 5, 1949 at Devils Lake, ND the son of William G. and Maxine “Mick” (Oliver) Stewart. He was reared in Southam and would call Southam home for his entire life.

Bruce was united in marriage to Lorrie Gerrells in 1980 and they were the proud parents of son Preston.

He attended Lakota Public School and graduated from Lakota High School. He continued his education at UND, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management. 

The Southam Elevator has been in existence since 1912 and every generation of the Stewart family was involved in its continued operation through the years. Most recently Bruce was the manager of the elevator. 

Whenever Bruce had the chance you would find him fishing. He loved to fish. He also enjoyed hunting in the fall for ducks and geese.  Bruce loved spending time with his family and friends.  He enjoyed visiting with neighbors and clients at the elevator and sharing good times and good conversations.

Bruce will be missed by his son Preston of Southam; granddaughter Bella Lane Pladson; nephews Brandon and Brock; cousins Jim and Karen Stewart and other dear family. Many special friends and patrons to the Southam Elevator also survive and were very special to Bruce.

Special friends Lorrie Gerrells, Scott Gerrells, Rick Tronson, Larry Duhmel, Darrell Nilep, Scott Anderson, Ray Erickson, Roger Perkuhn, George Paine, the Langton family, Kunkel family, Dimmler family, Roehr family, Eidsness family, Schneider family, DePlazes family and the Windjue family. Bruce thought the world of all of you.

Funeral Services for Bruce will be held on Friday, October 11, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake, ND. Gathering of family and friends will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Friday until time of service.  Burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery at a later date.
