Carol Jean, born on July 9, 1939, in Devils Lake, ND, one of five girls of Russell W. and Helena R. (Rutten) Webster. She grew up on the family farm in the Webster, ND area, attended Webster Public School and graduated from Devils Lake Central High School with the class of 1957.

Carol Jean was the precious high school sweetheart of Raymond Weed, and he was the love of her life. They were united in marriage on July 14, 1957. Together they were the proud parents of four sons Daniel, Russell, Dennis, and Michael.

They lived for a brief time at a farm near Webster, then bought a farm north of Minnewaukan and in 1966 bought a farm southwest of Minnewaukan where they lived, worked, and raised their family. They were just getting ready to move into Devils Lake for the winter months when Ray passed away on October 15, 2017. Carol painfully carried out the plan they had made and called Devils Lake home until her passing.

Without question, Carol was that hard working, loving, devoted farm wife, mother, and grandmother. She was always there to support the ranching and farming business. She did whatever it took to keep things running including cooking, baking, getting kids to and from school, getting them to their activities and always ready to help Ray when necessary. She always had coffee and goodies ready for family and friends who stopped by or when Ray’s sweet tooth needed tending. Carol’s passion was her family; the grandchildren and great grandchildren were her pride and joy. They always put a smile on her face and sparkle in her eyes.

Carol’s caring heart called her to work as a CNA at Eventide Heartland Care Center for several years. She was named the FISH employee of the year for her exemplary work. With her mother’s decreasing health and need for more care, Carol diverted her attention to faithfully caring for Helena until her death.

On the farm, Carol always had a large garden, beautiful flower beds, cats in her care and did sewing as a hobby.

She was an active member of St. James Catholic Church in Minnewaukan until it closed then became a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake.

She was the quiet strength behind the ranch, a steadfast partner whose hands and heart nurtured both land and family. As the mother of four sons, her love endures in every horizon, and her legacy is woven into every sunset over the prairie.

Carol’s loving family includes her sons and daughters-in-law Dan and Judy Weed, Devils Lake, Dennis and Shelly Weed, Minnewaukan, and Mike and Becky Weed, Leonard ND; grandchildren Brett (Jolie) Johnston, Mathew (Natalie) Weed: Mitch Weed, Brittany (Travis) Kraft: Riley (Sheena) Weed, Brandi (Ryan) Olson: Amy (Andy) Bachmeier; great grandchildren Ashlyn, Peyton, Marni: Austin, Madinko, Minkah: Cade (Ekira), Lux, Kamry, Kolt: Chloe: Barrett, Rex, Bane, Bauer: Oaklynn; great great grandson Silas; sister Kathleen Bryngelson, Pine City MN; sister-in-law Ila Weed, Jamestown ND; many nieces, nephews and their families.

She was reunited with her parents, husband Ray, son Russell Weed, sisters Ruth Elton, Mary Leyland, and Barbara Mikkelsen.
