Clarice Barbara Kroll

Funeral Services for Clarice will be held on Friday, October 10, 2025 at 12:30 p.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake with Reverend Mr. Ken Severinson, Deacon officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Minto ND at 3:30 p.m. 

Clarice Barbara Kroll, 73, Devils Lake ND died at the Sanford Medical Center in Fargo ND on Friday, September 19, 2025 after a lengthy battle with cellulitis and congestive heart failure.

Clarice was born on October 11, 1951 in Grafton, ND. She was the youngest of three daughters of Simon and Evangeline (Mastenbroek) Kroll. She grew up and attended school in Grafton and graduated with the class of 1969. Her favorite summer job was working on the Carnegie Library Bookmobile.

Clarice moved to Devils Lake to attend Lake Region Junior College and earned an Associate of Arts Degree on May 21, 1971.

She married Stan Leiphon on February 12, 1971 in St. Benedict Catholic Church in rural Crary, ND. They farmed in that area for several years and later divorced.

When Wal-Mart came to Devils Lake in 1992, she became a favorite cashier and later a cart pusher. She retired after 29 years. In 2008 Clarice moved into Devils Lake and always missed the country life and the animals, especially when she raised sheep. She took care of St. Benedict’s Church Cemetery for 25 years.

Clarice enjoyed nature, skiing, gardening, houseplants, travelling, doing needlepoint, cooking, reading, classical music and even the old-time music. She was a member of the Benedictine Oblates in Belcourt ND for several years and now a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Devils Lake.

She is survived by two sisters Adeline Kroll Sichterman in Gobles, Michigan and Margaret Kroll in St. John, ND; favorite cousin Michele (Rod) Perreault in Grand Forks, ND. She also left behind her two beloved felines, Tony and Mr. Kitty.

She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents and her favorite aunt Eleanore Loing and other dear relatives.

Clarice was a good person and she helped a lot of people. She will be missed.

There will be a Celebration of Clarice’s life on Friday, October 10, 2025 at 12:30 p.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake with burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Minto, ND on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
