Corwin Michael “Cory” Longie of the Spirit Lake Nation passed away on Friday, May 15, 2026 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND at the age of 69 years.

There will be visitation at the Gilbertson Funeral Home Chapel, Devils Lake beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 with a Funeral Service to follow at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Brandon Wegener will officiate and burial will be in the St. Thomas Episcopal Cemetery, Crow Hill at a later date.

Corwin was born at Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake, ND on January 15, 1957, the son of Michael Roerick and Mercie Jerome. He grew up on the Spirit Lake Nation. He attended grade school at Wahpeton Boarding School, high school at Flandreau, South Dakota and then graduated from Job Corp at Kicking Horse, Montana.

Cory did face many challenges and health issues over the past few decades. In facing those challenges he had come to know and trust in his Lord and Savior. He daily read his Bible and had become involved in the church services and activities of Lighthouse Assembly of God in Fort Totten.

He fought many hard battles through the years, but Cory was always blessed with a wide, steadfast family wrapped around him with the kind of love that refuses to quit.

Cory’s loving family include his brothers Pete Longie and his wife Marcella, Christopher Nelson and his wife Caroline; many precious aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was reunited with his Lord and Savior, parents Michael and Mercie, siblings Phillip Young, Martina Lundberg, Marcie Young, Rebecca Longie, Erich Longie, Mark Longie and April St. Pierre and other dear family members.
