Darcy K. Olson Sr., 78 of Devils Lake, ND passed away on Saturday afternoon, June 20, 2026, at home with his loving family by his side. 

Visitation for family and friends will be held at Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Thursday, July 9, 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. Services for Darcy will be held on Friday, July 10, 2026, at Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake at 11:00 a.m. Food and fellowship to follow service at Ruger Park picnic shelter, Devils Lake, ND. Urn bearers for Darcy will be his granddaughters, Ashlynn and Emmy.

Darcy Kent Olson Sr., the son of Stanton and Elma (Stenerodden) was born December 23, 1947 in the Maddock area. In 1955 the family moved to Devils Lake. Darcy graduated from Devils Lake High School as part of the class of 1966. On February 14th, 1969, Darcy was united in marriage to the love of his life, Dorothea (Chico) Olson. Later in life Darcy and Dorothea enjoyed “date nights”, usually consisting of supper out and bar bingo.

 Darcy worked in construction for years, finishing his career with Tri-Quality Construction. He loved working with his hands and could solve most challenges. Darcy was persistent, never wanting to quit what he started. His work was always complete and always honest. Darcy was a confirmed member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles since 1977. When there was time for a hobby, Darcy was an avid reader of all genres, but especially westerns. He collected and read well over 200 Louis Lamour novels. He loved to organize and fix anything that needed repair. In the 80’s-90’s Darcy raised horses and took great pride in the process. One of his greatest joys was waking up with a new colt in his pasture. The moments that meant the most for Darcy were times spent with his family. His granddaughters brought him the most joy. He was content to share how proud he was of their accomplishments. Darcy will forever be loved and forever in our hearts.

Darcy is survived by his loving wife, Dorothea; Son, Darcy (Laura) Olson Jr. or West Fargo, ND and his beloved granddaughters, Ashlynn and Emmy Olson. Also survived by his sisters, Vicki Lampman of Muskegon, Michigan; Valerie Skadsem of Devils Lake, ND; Beth (Patick) Corbitt of Littleton, Colorado; Shelia (Russ) Moen of Devils Lake, ND; Candice (Glenn) Phillips of McVille, ND; Denise Faith of Everett, Washington; Monica (Eldridge) Anderson of Ithaca, New York; Shurette (John) Reither of Castle Rock, Colorado. Brothers, Sheldon (Marg) Olson of Pahrump, Colorado; James (Vicky) Olson or Lakota, ND. Sister-in-Laws, Velma Lambert, Darlene Longie, Angela (Jess) Cavanaugh, Laure Dauphinais; Brothers-in-Law, Peter Dauphinais, Dean (Sonta) Dauphinais, James Dauphinais, Hyllis (Nancy) Dauphinais.

Darcy was preceded in death by his father, Stanton; Mother Elma; brothers Gary and David. Brother-in-Law, Jack Dauphinais.
