Debra "Deb" Sanderson passed away on Friday, September 9, 2022 at CHI, St. Alexius Health, Devils Lake Hospital with loving family at her side at the age of 68 years.

Gathering of family and friends will be held on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake beginning at 12:00 noon followed by a funeral service at 3:00 p.m.  Reverend David Fix will officiate.

Deb was born on December 25, 1953 to Joe and Alice Dendinger. Deb and her brother Rich grew up on the family farm ten miles north of Minot. The Dendinger family were members of the Minot Presbyterian Church. Deb attended her first six years of elementary education at the Tatman one-room country school that had a basement with a stove that was used in the winter to cook baked potatoes for lunch. Total school enrollment was around 18 students in grades 1-8. After grade 6, Deb attended and graduated from Glenburn Public School with the class of 1971. After high school Deb attended Minot business College (fall of 1971). After graduation, Deb began working at the Dakota Boys Ranch in Minot. It was there that she met Chuck Sanderson and they were married on October 26, 1974.

After their marriage, Deb and Chuck moved to Dickinson, ND where Deb began working for the SouthWest Special Education. Deb and Chuck then moved to Mott, ND and eventually in 1985 moved to their current home in Devils Lake, ND. Prior to this move, Deb and Chuck were blessed to two wonderful children Jessica Dawn and Derek Lee. Deb was a great partner to raise not just our children but other children who were the friends of Jess and Derek. Later in her life she helped Derek with his child Cassidy and her half siblings Meggan, Katie, and Nick. Not to stop there, Deb was an adult volunteer at the Youth Center. She was “Mom” to many of the kids who visited, played, and danced there. She was always the one the kids would seek out.

Jess and her husband have two wonderful children, Aaron and Felicity and live in Indian Trail, NC. Meggan is married to Tanner Tuchscherer and have two children, Breklynn and Brinley, and they live in Rhame, ND.

In late November of 2021, Deb was diagnosed with Neuroendocrine Tumors. She began chemotherapy immediately. Deb went through several rounds of radiation therapy to control the tumors, but unfortunately, they continued to spread. Deb fought the good fight and did all she could. On September 9, Deb, with family by her side, began her journey to Heaven.

Deb leaves behind her loving husband, Charles Sanderson, her son Derek and significant other, Amber Miller, and her daughter, Jessica Herbert (Sanderson) and her husband Andre; grandchildren Cassidy (Derek’s daughter), Katie Nick and Meggan (Derek’s step children); Aaron and Felicity (Jessica and Andre’s children), great grandchildren Breklynn and Brinley (Meggan and Tanner’s children) and Cole and Noelle (Amber’s children).

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Alice, brother Rich Dendinger, many aunts, uncles and cousins.
