Obituary

Dennis Peter Desjarlais, 80 of Devils Lake formerly of St. John, ND passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2026 at his home in the care of family and HIA Hospice.

Dennis Peter Desjarlais, son of Alfred and Marie Cecelia (Bercier) Desjarlais was born on September 14, 1945 in Belcourt, ND. He grew up on the farm in the St. John area and attended school in Belcourt. His father died when he was very young, but he treasured the love of his 11 brothers and sisters who helped to raise him.

Dennis lived in Montana and Wisconsin for a short while, but eventually made his home in Devils Lake. For 20 years, Dennis was a dedicated employee of the Cedar Inn Restaurant.

Dennis was an extremely talented artist and shared many of his paintings with family. In retirement he enjoyed Word Search puzzles and his feline friend, Tabitha.

He had many happy years with his beloved Maggie until her passing.

These past months have been challenging for Dennis, but he felt blessed to have the caring hearts and hands of his siblings and care provider Stephanie.

Dennis is survived by his siblings Elsie Jungling, St. John, ND, Martin “Marty” (Barbara) Desjarlais, Virginia Beach, Virginia, Andrew (Doris) Desjarlais, Williston, ND, Eugene (Julie) Desjarlais, Bismarck, ND and Pauline Trottier, Rolla, ND; many dear nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Dennis was reunited with his parents Alfred and Cecelia, siblings Helen, Dorothy, Darlene, Theresa, Conrad, and Evelyn, half-sister Doris Azure and many other relatives.

There will be a graveside service at the St. John Cemetery, rural St. John, North Dakota at a later date. Dennis will be laid to rest with his mother Cecelia.
