Donald A. “Don” Hoffart, 83 of Devils Lake ND passed away on Wednesday, September 29, 2021, at Eventide Heartland Care Center.

Donald was born on March 3, 1938, in Rugby, ND, the son Michael and Maria (Axtman) Hoffart. He grew up on a farm in the Balta, ND area and attended Balta Public School. He graduated from Balta High School with the class of 1956.

Don enlisted in the United States Marine Corp on September 28, 1956 and served his country stateside. He was honorably discharged on September 27, 1958, with the rank of Corporal. After his discharge he returned to Balta and worked road construction, as a bartender part-time, and drove bus for the Balta School District.

In the summer of 1959, Don began an extensive career with North Star Distributors, working for Ed Wentz and Bernie Huss which was later sold to Schwan Wholesale, Inc. in 1989. In 2006, after 47 years he retired with many fond memories and friendships.

Don was united in marriage to Regina Koble on November 21, 1960, at the Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby. They established their home in Devils Lake where they lived, worked, and raised their family through the years. They were soon to celebrate 61 years of marriage.

Don was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed membership in the Elks and Eagles Lodges. He also served as a Boy Scout Leader for several years.

Don was a man of many talents as he under-took numerous house remodeling projects and helped his children with their home projects. His hobbies were collecting old coins and miniature vintage Ertl cars and trucks, but his greatest joy was spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Don was a man who served God and his country, and was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a quiet man who would surprise you with his sense of humor and one-liners.

Don’s loving family include his wife, Regina; children Michael (Monica) Hoffart, Manlius, New York, Sharyl Peterson, Devils Lake and Donovan (DeAnne) Hoffart also of Devils Lake; grandchildren Curt (Mallory) Hoffart, Chad Hoffart: Cheslyn (Trevor) Stromme, Brett Peterson: Taylor Hoffart, Trisha (Alex) Olson; great grandchildren Brekken and Carson Stromme and Nora Olson and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters Veronica Wangler, Elizabeth House, Joseph Hoffart, Rose Brossart and Delores Hoffart, in-laws Adam and Elizabeth Koble and other beloved family.

Casket Bearers will be grandchildren Curt, Chad, Cheslyn, Brett, Taylor, Trisha and Trevor and Alex. Gift Bearers will be granddaughters Cheslyn and Trisha.
