Donald “DON” Kuntz, 74, of Devils Lake, passed away surrounded by the never ending love of his family on Monday, June 10th, 2019.
Don was born March 2, 1945 to Katherine (Lemer) and Walter Kuntz in Devils Lake. He attended school at St Joes, St Mary’s Academy and Devils Lake Central. 1963 – 1965 he attended Aakers Business College.
Don married Carol Hammond, September 7th, 1966. From 1965-66 Don worked for Attorney, David Garcia. In April 1966 Don drove taxi for Finley Agar and later purchased and operated “Don’s Taxi Service” until 1976. In July 1977 he went full time with the Lake Region Ambulance Service and was a dedicated EMT until 1990 in which due to physical limitations he had to change careers. In 1991 Don started at Mercy Hospital as patient admit, later transferring to the business office until in 2008 he was forced to retire. Don often held numerous other jobs in addition to his full time jobs. He also worked as the gaming manager for the LR Ambulance, attendant at Holiday Gas station and did the books for Glickson’s and then Jerry’s Wearhouse.
Don was a dedicated member of EMT Association and also of Devils Lake St Joseph’s Catholic Church. He was a faithful reader of “The New Earth” and kept us all up on the “Catholic” news. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, bringing his loved ones on his Pontoon, tinkering and fixing on cars and many projects especially those for his kids and grandkids. He’s always had a passion for sports, a love/hate with the VIKINGS but especially TWINS baseball and every year would gather his girls and whatever friends and pile in the van for the annual Twins/Valley Fair trip!
Don’s daughters, sons-in-law and Grand Kids were the highlight and loves of his life. His face would light up the sky when they would come visit him. All his daughter’s friends were “dads” kids as well. He had a way to make anyone feel special.
Don had a special “LOVE” story and was an inspiration to many. Dealt with a crippling disease, you never heard him complain or did it stop him from accomplishing many things. This past year was a year of many gifts blessed from above. There was never a “thing” too big for him or our GOD and he fought like heck to remain here with his family. He taught us all to fight up to the end. He will be dearly missed.
Those sharing in his life are Mother of the girls, Carol Kuntz, Daughters Sue Olson, (Fargo), Valerie and (Eric) Karlsbraaten, (Esmond), Jody and (Don) Skadsem, (Devils Lake), Carrie and (Jeff) Trenda, (Petersburg), and Stacy and (Kyle) Sabbe, (Maddock).
