Donald Robert Schlieve, son of Robert L. and Mary (Jones) Schlieve was born on July 20, 1934, on Grahams Island, Benson County, North Dakota. He was reared on Grahams Island and educated at Warwick Public School. In his early twenties, the family moved to Webster ND and Don helped on the family farm and also worked for Lake Region Sheet Metal in Devils Lake.

Don entered the United States Army on August 5, 1958, and served his country stateside until his honorable discharge from active duty on August 4, 1960, with the rank of SP4. He continued to serve in the Army Reserve until August of 1964.

Don was united in marriage to his precious Lola Olson on May 12, 1960, at Devils Lake and they celebrated 64 years of life together, joys, sorrows, and love. They made their home in Devils Lake until 1966 when they moved to a farm NE of Devils Lake and called it home through the years.

Along with the day-to-day operation of the farm, Donald worked for 34 years for the North Dakota Highway Department.

Don never really retired from farming. Even in these past months of illness, he loved to sit out on the deck, watch the comings and goings of his son who had taken over the farming business and just enjoy the beauty of the outdoors. He always had a canine companion at his side through the years and now enjoyed the company of his dog, Brutus.

Family meant the world to Donald, and he was so proud of his sons, cherished his three grandsons and was thrilled to be great grandpa to five. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodworking in his spare time. He also enjoyed membership in the American Legion.

He proudly served his country, provided for his family, and showed true stewardship to the land he was blessed to farm.

Donald is survived by his loving family. His beloved wife Lola; sons Dwaine Schlieve and Brian Schlieve both of Devils Lake; grandsons Flint Schlieve, Robert (Kaycee) Schlieve and Kyle Schlieve; great grandchildren Collyns and Hawkens-Blakeley and Hunter-Ryatt; many nieces, nephews, and their families.

He was preceded in death by his son Scott, grandson Dana Schlieve, siblings and their spouses Mabel and Henry Brown, Lyle Schlieve, Leonard “Bud” Schlieve, Tilford and Beverly Schlieve, Mildred “Millie” and Lloyd Johnson, Hazel and Gerold Ralston, Arthur Schlieve and in-laws Alfton and Luella Olson
