Dr. Lee L. Dannenberg

Dr. Lee Dannenberg, 80 of Devils Lake, ND passed away on Thursday morning, May 2, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Center, Devils Lake.

Lee Lawrence Dannenberg was born on March 2, 1939 at Milwaukee, Wisconsin, son of Allton J. and Violet J. (Geisenheimer) Dannenberg. He was reared and educated in Milwaukee, graduating from Marquette High School with the class of 1957.  He continued his education at the University of Wisconsin in Madison and earned a Pharmacy Degree in 1961, and served his internship in Milwaukee.  While at the University, Lee was Captain of the University of Wisconsin Army ROTC Rifle Team.

He entered the United States Army and proudly served with the Medical Service Corp on Staten Island, New York as a First Lieutenant. He was honorably discharged on July 6, 1967.  While in the Reserves he continued studies at the University of Wisconsin and received his Doctor of Medicine in 1969.

Lee met and later married his beloved Sibyl McCreary on October 17, 1970 in St. Paul, Minnesota. They made their home in Indianapolis, Indiana for three years while Lee completed his residency in ophthalmology at Indiana University.  Lee then had his own practice in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin from 1973 to 1990.  He sold his practice and in 1993 moved to Devils Lake and was working as an ophthalmologist at the Eye Clinic.

Lee loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and skeet shooting. Time at the lake was so precious but even after the rising waters of Devils Lake took away their lake home, they continued to make the most of the boating and fishing time with family and friends.

Lee was a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmologists, the NRA and the NSSA (National Skeet Shooting Association). His most treasured moments were time spent with his dear family and good friends.

Lee is survived by his loving family. His wife Sibyl; children and their spouses Julie and Ozzie Melchor, Bourbonnais, IL, Jean and Paul Anderson, Madison, WI and John and Kelsey Dannenberg, Mandan, ND; grandchildren Miquel, Brianna and Amber Melchor and Brady and Callen Dannenberg and his brother Richard Joseph Dannenberg and his wife Sally, Richmond, KY.

He was preceded in death by his parents and in-laws Ardella and John McCreary.
