Earl Landers

Earl Landers, 67 of Devils Lake formerly of Tokio, ND passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks ND.

Funeral Services for Earl will be held on Monday, November 21, 2022 at the Tokio Wellness Center, Tokio ND at 11:00 a.m.  There will be a gathering of friends and family beginning at 9:00 a.m. until services at 11:00 a.m.  Burial will be in the Dakotah Oyate Cemetery.

Earl Edward Landers was born on December 7, 1954 in Jay County, Indiana, the son of Earll Raymond and Mary Virginia Landers.  He ran away from home and joined the Carnival Circuit. While with the carnival in North Dakota, Earl met his beloved Mary Esther Greywind and they were united in marriage in 1978. They established their home in Tokio where they lived, worked and shared their life together. Earl happily took Mary’s children and grandchildren into his home and heart.  Mary was killed in a tragic car accident on September 29, 2002. Earl continued to live in Tokio for several years. He eventually would move to several different states, but for the past several years had made his home in Devils Lake.  Earl married Priscilla Thompson in 2012.

Earl was always a fun, loving, kind guy. He loved being with family and friends. He would do anything for anybody, he loved everyone.  His step children, step grandchildren and step great grandchildren meant the world to him and he loved to spoil them, especially Jodee’s little boy.

Earl was a hard worker. He worked for the Smith Ranch for many years and was always so appreciative of love and kindness of Howard and Frances and the entire Smith family. They were the parents and siblings Earl never had.  Earl also worked in maintenance at the Tokio Store.  Because of his many years living and working around Tokio he was often referred to as the “Mayor of Tokio”.  After moving to Devils Lake, Earl worked for Joe Moe and Sons and also Black Paws.

Earl was often seen walking around Devils Lake in his cowboy hat and boots or riding his bike. He made friends with everyone he met along the way. Earl was a good man with a heart of gold. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his step children Brenda Touche, Bruce Touche, Earl Ulmer and Esperanza DeChamp; step grandkids Jodee Touche, Elizabeth Touche, Ryan Robertson, Thomas Robertosn, Shannon Robertson, Bruce Lee Touche, Savannah Touche, Nicholas Touche and Anthony Touche; 44 great grandkids; many dear friends.

He was welcomed home to Heaven by his Lord, his lovely wife Mary Esther Greywind Landers, his step kids Stanley Touche, Omar Touche, Roberta Ott, Allen Touche, Harriet Touche, Wilfred Greywind and his good friends Hilda and Jake Weicher, Glen Rue and other beloved family.

Active Urn Bearers will be Darrel Smith and Duane Smith. Honorary Pallbearers will be Brenda Peltier, Lila Vannett, Ginger Rue Family, Mary Rue Family, Selina Abreu, Belinda Murphy, Prairie SwftHawk, Sheila McKay Family, Kevin Mindt, Jessie and Debbie Madson, Jerah Chaske, Samantha Littleghost, Owen and Denise McKay, Mary Mindt and family, Anthony (Kollin) Weicker, Brandon Belgarde, Stitch N Sisters, Mr. Ulysses Jones, Camilla Peltier Smith, Jade/Fred Philbrick and family and the entire Howard and Frances Smith family.  If we forgot to name anyone, please forgive us.
