Edward J. “Manny” Langstaff, “Hoksina Wakan” (Holy Boy) began his journey to the Spirit World on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at his home at Woodlake, ND at the age of 77 years.
Everyone is invited and welcome to Celebrate the life of “Many Wives Manny” (Manny loved a tease!) at the Tokio Wellness Center on Tuesday, November 18, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. The procession to Tokio will leave at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday from City Plaza. There will be a Traditional Service on Tuesday, at 5:00 p.m.
Edward James Langstaff was born on June 20, 1948, in Devils Lake ND, son of Patrick and Eleanor (Jetty) Langstaff. He was the great, great, great grandson of Holy Standing Buffalo.
Edward was raised in Woodlake where he lived and raised his family his whole life. He graduated from Warwick High School with the class of 1967.
Manny’s love for guns started at age 5 and boy did he love his guns. He built his own casket, sawmill, and cannon. He joined the National Guard, serving at Camp Grafton for many years until health issues forced him to retire in 1981. He worked for several farmers through the years, Fourth Corp, Spirit Lake Casino, and Sioux Manufacturing.
Manny was a true wood craftsman. He created so many woodworks, such as wishing wells, crosses, and shared his creations with family, friends, and the Spirit Lake community he loved.
Ed had a big heart. He was funny, crazy, liked to tease and poke everyone on Facebook. He had many friends, and you were always greeted with a smile and a good laugh. He was lovingly known to his great grandchildren as Grampa Great.
Ed was married several times and always welcomed children, grandchildren, adopted children, stepchildren and step grandchildren into his home and his loving care. He married Deanna (Larson) Greene on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1969, and they were the proud parents of Melvin, Eleanor, and George “Spunky”. When married to Rachael Kirby they welcomed into their home Steven, Josh, and Donna. His marriage to Tammie Nickelson added to the family, Page, Curtis, and grandson Nick. He and wife Susan Ruhl raised a granddaughter, Elyse.
Grief may cast its shadow over us now, heavy, and unrelenting, but beyond the horizon a sunrise waits over the home he loved, soft with promise, warm with hope, and certain to rise.❤️
