Elinor Homann

Elinor Rose Homann was born November 24, 1934, to Alma (Swanson) and Oliver Stavem. She was raised on the home farm and educated at Cutbank County School in the Mohall ND area. Elinor formerly of Devils Lake ND passed away at the home of her niece in Minot, ND on February 15, 2024. She was the youngest of three children. At the age of 14 she took over the running of the household when her mother became bedridden and helped with the farm work.

Elinor married Christ W. Homann on July 16, 1956, at Mohall Lutheran Church. To this marriage was born three children David, Debi, and Diane. She was a stay-at-home Mom until September 1968 when she started work at Devils Lake Central School until she retired in November of 1996. At that time, she took care of Christ until his death on May 5, 1998.

Elinor enjoyed visiting with family and friends, flower gardening, shopping, quilt making, and rummage sales. She loved sending birthday cards, and many letters wrote to friends and family. Almost every day she had a card or letter to mail.

She leaves many behind to feel the emptiness of this world without her: daughter Debi (Corey) Halvorson, Tolna ND, Diane Homann, Belle Fourche SD; grandchildren Amanda (Jeremy) Lee, Grand Forks ND, Jennifer (Nathan) Axdahl, Minot ND, David Poitra Jr. (Nina Hurt), Belle Fourche SD, Austin (Jenny) Luehring, Fargo ND, Aaron (Anna) Halvorson, Tolna ND, Paul (Amanda) Halvorson, Arlington WA; great grandchildren Corban, Madden and Dawson Lee, Grace and Thomas Halvorson, Bridger Watson, Brittin Van Sickle, Adrian Erb and Savanna Thomas; nieces and nephews Mary Schimmel, Linda Harshman, Rose (Matt) Enney, Dale (Tannis) Stavem, Kurt (Jennifer) Stavem, Terry (Sondra) Homann, Lynn Homann, Jason Homann, Monica (Lynn) Long and Suzette (Chris) Parish. She leaves behind twenty-five great nieces and great nephews: special friends Marla and Terry Luehring and Vi and Bob Borho.

Preceded in death by her husband Christ, son David, her parents, her brothers Howard Stavem and Raymond Stavem, nephew Ray Stavem, brother-in-law LeRoy Homann, sisters-in-law Vi Homann and Carol Stavem and special friend Charles Gillstrap.

Special thanks to Rose, Matt, and Linda for the last two years of care at Enney Adult Foster Care Minot.
