Elizabeth Ann “Libby” Littleghost, 82 of St. Michael ND began her journey to the Spirit World on Friday, August 20, 2021.
Elizabeth Ann Waanatan, daughter of Eva (Longie) and William Waantan was born on July 14, 1939 in Devils Lake. Libby was the great great granddaughter of Chief Waanatan. Elizabeth’s parents died when she was very young so she went to live with her grandparents the Henry Longie family. She and her sister Elaine went to school in Wahpeton.
She was united in marriage to Eugene Littleghost and they were blessed with 9 children Russell, Marva, Leticia, Carol, Dennis, Denise, Faron, Mark and Marilyn. They made their home on the Spirit Lake Nation until after Russell and Marva were born they moved to Chicago, Illinois for a time. They returned to the St. Michael area and Libby worked for a time at the St. Jude’s Elderly Center and also at Dakota Tribal Industries for a short time. Eugene died on August 11, 1983. Libby continued to live on the Spirit Lake Nation the rest of her life.
Elizabeth lived her entire life loving and caring for her family. They were her pride and joy. Libby enjoyed spending time with her grandkids. She also loved watching wrestling, the “Golden Girls” and game shows. When she was physically able to walk, she liked going to BINGO’s Prize BINGO’s. She liked playing cards with her daughter Ticia and grandkids. She especially enjoyed going for rides to White Horse Hill. She liked calling her sisters everyday, especially Elaine. Libby was a great supporter of her grandkids, attending any special events and sporting events they were participating in.
Elizabeth’s loving family include her children Marva (John) Tollefson, Leticia Littleghost, Mark (Vanessa) Littleghost and Marilyn Littleghost (Daniel Peltier); sister Helena Littleghost; grandchildren Russell Jr., Rory and Roletta Littleghost, Curtiss, John and Mike Tollefson, Robin Tikanye, Eugene Littleghost, Felicia, Cody and Desiree LIttleghost, Mark Littleghost Jr., Ashton and Trinity Littleghost, Fallon Dixon, Tiffany, Coltan, ShaQuille and Ricardo Littleghost; great grandchildren Johnson Tollefson, April Tollefson, Felicity, Hailey, John, Sydney, Shelby, Kinsley, McKinley, Dante, Tayler, Dacia and Gimanawaste Tollefson, Eugene Jr. and Eryx Littleghost, Mikayla, Aubree, ShaQuille Jr., Keithan, Jasper, and Ricardo Jr. Littleghost, Madison and Cianna Littlewind, Ryilee, Riah, Natalie, Raylene and Baby Rory Littleghost, Danika, Dayanna and Kihlynn Littleghost, Logan Aaker, Kaiden Jackson, Dominic, Talaijah, Cody Jr. and Milani Littleghost; 36 great great grandchildren and many dear nieces, nephews and their families.
Those who welcomed her to the Spirit World were her parents William and Eva, husband Eugene Littleghost, sons Russell Littleghost, Dennis Littleghost and Faron Littleghost, daughters Denise Littleghost and Carol Littleghost, grandson Manuel Littlewind Jr., siblings Jerome Waanatan, Mary Littlewind, Paul Graywater, Elaine Robertson, Maxine Littleghost, Arlene Littleghost and Leroy Littleghost, great grandchildren Billy Eugene Dauphinais, Genesis Azure and Jonathan Tikanye Jr.
Active Pallbearers will be Elizabeth’s grandsons Russell Littleghost Jr., Rory Littleghost, Eugene Littleghost Sr. Curtiss Tollefson, John Tollefson, Michael Tollefson, Cody Littleghost, Mark Littleghost Jr., Ashton Littleghost, Coltan Littleghost, ShaQuille Littleghost, Ricardo Littleghost and also Mark Littleghost Sr.

The Wake for Elizabeth will be held on Friday, August 27, 2021 at the Tekakwitha Center, St. Michael ND beginning at 5:30 p.m. The procession to St. Michael will leave at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, from City Plaza in Devils Lake. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church with Reverend Paul Schuster celebrating the Mass. Burial will be in St. Jerome’s Cemetery, rural Crow Hill, ND.
