Elizabeth Ann Nelson, 80 of Crary, ND passed away peacefully at her home in the loving care of her family and Altru Hospice on Tuesday, February 2, 2021.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on held on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake with the Very Reverend C.F. Wilhelm celebrating the Mass.  A Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m.  The funeral Mass will be live-streamed at Facebook.com/stjosephdvl.  Burial will be in the North Dakota Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Mandan, ND at a later date.

Visitation will be at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Friday, February 12th from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a time of Prayer and Remembrance at 6:00 p.m. led by Deacon Ken Severinson.

Elizabeth was born on May 18, 1940, in Halstad, MN, the daughter of Joseph and Leila (Enger) Anderson. She was baptized on June 30, 1940, in Hendrum, MN, and entered the Catholic Church on January 17, 2021.

She was the eldest of 3 children. She graduated from Hendrum High School in 1958. She attended NDSU and obtained her teaching degree in Home Economics in 1962. She was in education for over 45 years at Hillsboro, Grandin, Fort Yates, Edmore and Fort Totten, ND, which included writing grants while at Fort Totten. She also served as the program coordinator for Lake Region Corporation and 4th Corporation in Devils Lake.

She was married to Dennis R. Nelson on April 12, 1963, in Hendrum, MN. They were married for over 53 years until his death in 2016. They adopted and raised 6 children, which included raising 3 grandchildren. Her family started in 1967 and continually cared for her minor children for over 50 years until her death.  She was a wonderful Mother with a caring and loving heart for all her children.

Elizabeth is survived by her children: Jessica (Steve) Pew, AK; Andrew (Elizabeth) Nelson, Devils Lake; Matt (Linnea) Nelson, CA; Beth (Matt) Wells, IL; Melissa Nelson, TX, and Andrea Nelson; brother Tom Anderson, TX; brother-in-law George Hills (Sue) CO; grandchildren Daishawn, Arieanna and Elicia who were adopted by her and 13 other grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; several nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Sue.
