Glenn Hodous

Glenn Hodous, 91 years old, of Devils Lake, ND, formerly of Edmore, ND passed away on December 19th, 2019 at Eventide Heartland nursing home with his loving family by his side

Glenn was born on March 15, 1928 in Enderlin, ND to Lydia (Clapp) and Frank Hodous. When he was 2 ½ years old, Glenn’s family relocated to Glendive, MT, where they lived with his uncle and he attended grade school. When he was 14 years old, he started working in the coal mines and at 15 years old he had a short stint with the railroad. Shortly after that Glenn moved to Park River, ND to attend the Park River Ag school.  Despite working on a potato farm, renting his own small farm and playing football, he graduated in 3 ½ years with honors.  He farmed near Adams until 1950 when he moved to a farm near Webster, ND.  Soon after he met and eventually married Dorothy Weed of Devils Lake and subsequently raised four children. In 1956, Glenn and his family moved to farm west of Edmore, ND. Glenn farmed until 2007 and during that time he raised small grains, dairy and beef cattle, hogs and sheep. During his life time, Glenn sheared THOUSANDS of sheep for his neighbors.

Glenn was a founding member of the Edmore Curling Club and was also a member of the Edmore Masonic Lodge. He served on the Ramsey County Fair Board, the Ramsey County Farm Bureau Board, the Cavalier REA Board and other various organizations. Glenn was an avid outdoorsman, as he loved to hunt and fish. He took several trips to Canada to fish with friends and family and to Montana to hunt with his nephews. Glenn was also a Master Gardener.

In 1980, Glenn was presented with the Harvest Bowl award from NDSU, an award that his grandson, Thomas, would be presented with 37 years later. In 1981, Glenn was presented with an award from the Soil Conservation District. Glenn loved his trees.

Most of all Glenn loved people. Seldom did he meet a person that he would not talk to. His children, his grandchildren and his great grandchildren were his pride and joy. Very seldom was there something going on for them that he was not supporting them in some manner. Glenn loved to learn, as he watched Jeopardy daily. He encouraged all of his grandchildren to continue their education. As Glenn was a lifelong learner, he donated his body to the University Of North Dakota School Of Medicine, so others could learn because of him.

Glenn is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy. His son, Bill (Debbie) Hodous of Devils Lake; his daughters: Peggy (Mike) Olderbak of Rockford, IL; Cindy (Tony) Boeddeker of Hunter, ND and Linda (Marvin Jr.) Walter of Warwick, ND. 7 grandchildren: Christine (Alistair) Stiven; Jason (Stephanie) Hodous; Thomas (Melissa) Hodous; Benjamin (Laura) Walter; Lucas (Anna) Walter; Laura (Andy) Hobart and Carrie Fulton. He is also survived by 16 great grandchildren and his nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Warren and Howard Hodous, and his sister, Marilyn Hayes.

A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, December 27th, 2019 at 2:00 pm at the Eventide Heartland Care Center Chapel, Devils Lake, ND.
