Harold Carl Jack

Harold C. Jack, 90 of Devils Lake formerly of South Minnewaukan Township, rural Devils Lake passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at Eventide Heartland Care Center in the loving care of the Eventide Staff.

Harold Carl, son of Olive (Schmicle) and Carl Kriser-Jack was born on July 29, 1928 at Devils Lake, ND. He attended the South Minnewaukan Township Country School, riding horse back and forth to the schoolhouse.  He lived his entire life on the farm at South Minnewaukan except for the past 5 years at the Odd Fellows Home.

Harold married his beloved Muriel Hoffmeyer on September 12, 1948 at Devils Lake and they established their home on the farm where Harold farmed and raised cattle. Harold believed in hard work so he always held several other jobs besides being a farmer and rancher.  Harold worked as a Bailiff at the old Courthouse/Post Office. He worked for the United States Postal Service as a bulk mail carrier, running the Jamestown to Devils Lake route every day of the week for many years.  He worked at the VFW Club in Devils Lake and eventually was the manager.  Harold also delivered the bulk Grand Forks Herald to many cities in Ramsey, Towner and Rolette Counties.  Harold and Muriel also were Foster Parents to many children and were Respite Care Providers.  After they retired from farming and all other jobs, Harold and Muriel owned and operated a Pawn Shop in Devils Lake.

Harold was a life member of the Elks Lodge, I.O.O.F., VFW and former member of the Eagles Lodge. He also served on the South Minnewaukan Township Board for many years.

Harold also believed in taking time off to relax whenever he could. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and especially loved spending time at the lake first at Creel Bay and then as the waters rose at Peterson’s Resort.  Everyone knew they were always welcome at the lake to enjoy a good meal, good conversation and a good time with family and friends.

We are thankful for so many years as a family and treasure all the memories we hold close to our hearts.

Harold is survived by his loving family. His wife of 70 years plus years Muriel; children Richard (Robin) Jack, West Fargo, ND, twins Sandra (Doug) Ginther, Lakota, ND and Cindy (Kent) Quam, Devils Lake; grandchildren Shelley (Paul) Wittrock, Jamie (Shari) Jack, Trish Coleman, Scott Coleman; Olivia (Brian) Kraft, Leslie (Roger) Wentz; Christopher (Kris) Quam, Cameron Quam; great grandchildren Casey, Shawn, Nicholas, Brooke, Jordon, Christian, Trinity, Anna, Isaac, Casandra, Preston, Bailey and Emili; in-laws Murl Anderson, MN, Buzz (Rose) Hoffmeyer, Colorado and Judy (Bob) Mosley, Florida; many nieces, nephews and their families.
