James K. Goodhouse Sr.

James K. Goodhouse Sr., "Ta tipi Waste Hoksina" (His House is full of love for his grandchildren) 42 of the Fort Totten, Spirit Lake Nation began is journey to the Spirit World on Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks ND.

James Kenneth Goodhouse Sr. was born on December 20, 1977 in Devils Lake ND, the son of Kenneth K. Goodhouse and Cecelia “Kixie” Cavanaugh. He was reared and educated in Fort Totten, West Fargo and also attended the Quentin Burdick Job Corps in Minot ND.  James moved from Fort Totten, Fargo, Newtown and Moorhead before coming back home to live in Fort Totten. 

James worked at odd jobs and day labor jobs over the years while living in the Fargo/Moorhead area.

On January 25th, 2000, james and Raven Thompson were blessed with the birth of a son Trevon Goodhouse.  They later welcomed 3 more kids, Jaydin, Shayleen and James Jr.

James enjoyed spending time with his family and especially time with his grandkids.

James’s loving family members include his mother Cecelia “Kixie” Cavanaugh, his siblings Kenzie Goodhouse, Kenny Goodhouse and Kerry (JayDean Alberts) Wolff; his children Trevon Goodhouse, Jaydin Goodhouse, Shayleen (James LoveJoy) Goodhouse and James Goodhouse Jr.; grandchildren Jameson Goodhouse and Jaylynn LoveJoy; aunt Agnes (Cornelle) Cavanaugh; uncle Conrad Cavanaugh; nieces, nephews and many other dear relatives.

He was welcomed home to the Spirit World by his Lord, his father Kenneth Goodhouse, brother Kendall (Cavanaugh) Goodhouse, grandparents Tim and Kathleen Cavanaugh; aunts Claudette Cottonwood and Adeline Cavanaugh and many beloved family, cousins and friends.

Casket Bearers will be Marty Greywater, Robbie Cavanaugh, Camron Howard, Presley Howard, Darcy Longie, Frank de la Paz, JayDean Alberts and Austin Smith.

Honorary Bearers will be Jason Littlewind, Richard Olson, Owen McKay, Taurean Goodhouse, Charles Walker, Garrett Mudgett, Damien Blackbird, Butch Cavanaugh, Ronna Neidlinger, Chico Diaz, Crystal Littleghost, Woody Longie, Kurt T, Duane Littlewind, Zack Thumb, Rena Lohnes, Doris Desjarlais and family, James Tomahawk, Timothy Cottonwood and William “Bill” Tomahawk.

Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Monday, August 10, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 5:00 p.m. led by Reverend Larry Thiele.  A procession to Seven Dolors Catholic Church, Fort Totten will leave on Tuesday, August 11th at 1:00 p.m. with the Mass of Christian Burial at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Charles Leute OP celebrating the Mass.  James will be laid to rest in St. Jerome's Cemetery, Crow Hill ND.  Social distancing and masks as necessary will be a part of all services.  Please keep your health and safety and that of others in mind when attending services.
