Jesse Clark “JC” Davis of the Spirit Lake Nation began his journey to the Spirit World on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at the age of 31 years. He died a warrior.
Jesse Clark Davis, son of Jesse M. Davis and Viola “Lola” Waanatan was born on October 24, 1994, in Breckenridge, Minnesota. He spent his early years with his parents in Fargo, ND and Dilworth, MN. He attended schools in Belcourt, ND and Fort Totten, ND.
JC had so many natural talents and so many awesome characteristics. He loved working in vehicles, projects, and just “tinkering.” He loved to take things apart, find out how they worked, and put them back together. He was such a talented chef. He could make a delicious meal out of everything and anything. Whatever you had available in the kitchen, he could stir up something unique and delicious.
JC loved his music, loud! You could hear him coming down the road before you could ever see his vehicle. He loved to “bump his bass.”
Whenever JC entered the room, you felt safe, secure, loved, and fed. He was a natural protector, which meant he had to also be a warrior at times. He was fearless, courageous, and brave, but always loving and kind. Even if you weren’t his friend, he always stood up for what was right and just. Times weren’t always easy, there were days of pain, sorrow, and despair, but JC was a survivor. He always made it through the times and many times with a unique sense of humor, making everyone in the room laugh.
A young man called home too soon, now remembered as a warrior of family and friends and a holy man walking in the light of the Creator.
JC is survived by his loving family: mother Lola Waanatan, Fort Totten; father Jesse M. Davis, Fargo; son Julian Davis; daughters Andreza Tollefson and Da’Nya Gardner; grandma Claudia Delong; brothers Brandon, Sloane, Quaide, Sebastian, Eli, Wyatt, Dalton and Preston; sister Arielle; grandmas Maxine Buckles, Lila Anderson, Sheila Thompson, Geraldine RedFox; great grandma Helena Littleghost; grandpas Raymond Buckles, Clarence (Isabel) Leftbear; aunts Crystal Davis, Genia Jetty, Punky Brown, Leola White; uncles William “Chief” Waanatan Jr., Arthur Delong III, Waylon Delong, Danny Delong, Mike Gourneau; godparents Patty Chidester, Chris Davis; goddaughter Jazlynn Lenoir; and those dear extended family members he loved so much: brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was reunited with his sister Amber Langstaff, cousins Alden Black, Tiana and Lokia WalkingEagle, Christa Rose LaFountain, Jayden Wilkie, Brooke Davis, Chad Buckles, grandparents Carrie Redday, William Waanatan Sr., Clark Michael Davis, great grandma Virginia “Lajen” Davis, aunts Janelle Marie Davis, Denise Poni Cappo, uncle Melvin Gene Delong, bro Dion Gardner.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Langstaff, Sloane Davis, Quaide Longie, Sebastian Davis, Dalton Davis, Markus Davis, Clark Davis, and Matt LaVallie Jr.
Honorary Bearers: All his many dear friends and precious family members from the Turtle Mountain and Spirit Lake Tribes. A special thank you to Spirit Lake EMT’s, CHI, Devils Lake Hospital, Richard and Lonna Street and the Fire Keepers, Kris White, Jody White Sr. and to all who sent prayers and support to us in this very difficult time.
If we forgot to name anyone, please accept our apologies. The love JC had for his family and friends was unconditional and that love was felt by so very many people, we could not name them all.
