Jimmy R. Hunt

Jimmy Raymond Hunt, 85, passed away in the comfort of his own home, with his loving wife at his side on the 4th of July. His death was not anticipated but was not unexpected.

Jimmy was born April 10, 1936, to Carmon and Florence (Adams) Hunt in Langdon ND.  He graduated from Crosby High School with the class of 1954.  He entered the United States Army on October 5, 1955, and proudly and honorably served his country overseas in Japan. He was honorably discharged from active duty in 1957 and continued to serve with the reserves until 1961.

Jim was united in marriage to Janet Robertson on August 29, 1958, in Bottineau ND.  They established their home in Bottineau as Jim began his secondary education at Bottineau School of Forestry, continued at Minot States Teacher’s College and completed his education, receiving his Masters in Education at Fort Collins CO.

He began his teaching career in Carpio ND then in 1963 the family moved to Devils Lake and Jim worked for the Devils Lake Public School System.  Later he transferred to Lake Region Junior College working for the Title 9 Program.  Jim’s love for education inspired him to develop the Lake Area Vo-Tech Center in 1975, where he held the position of Vocational Director until retirement in 1995.   Jim was very proud to serve as President of the North Dakota Council of School Administrators from 1992-1993.

Jim was active in the community, owning two businesses: Buds-N-Blossoms and AAA Appraisal Service.  He volunteered to conduct informational programs for the North Dakota Insurance Company and North Dakota Senior Patrol out of Minot State University.  He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, VFW, Odd Fellows, Elks, Masons, and the Shriners where he served as the Captain of the Lake Region Flag Corp.

Jim loved people, family, river trips, camping, singing and the endless telling of stories to the grandkids.

Jim served his country and his community.  He was a devoted husband, loving father and such a proud grandpa and great grandpa, and a true friend to so many.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Jan “Blossom”; they were blessed with four children Jeff Hunt, Jamie (Amanda Becker) Hunt, Jon (Deb Kulzer) Hunt and Jodi (Larry) Kuntz all of Devils Lake; grandchildren Brittany, Lindsey, Alex (Calsey), Nik and John Hunt, Jaden Hunt, Jesse Hunt, LJ and Erika Melaas, Kayla (Tanner) Tougas, Kyle and Karson (Tabby Miller) Kuntz; great grandchildren Noble and Nordic Hunt; sister Eryls Neard and brother Greg (JoAnn) Hunt all of Glendive MT; cousin David Adams, Harvey ND and several nieces and nephews.
