Obituary

Joseph John Sherman of Fort Totten ND began his journey to the Spirit World on Sunday, April 12, 2026 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND with loving family at his side. He was 45 years old. 

The Wake for Joseph will be on Sunday, April 19, 2026 at Seven Dolors Catholic Church, Fort Totten beginning at 5:00 p.m. There will be a Prayer Service and time of sharing at 7:00 p.m. The procession to Fort Totten will leave on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. from City Plaza, Devils Lake. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, April 20, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at the church with Reverend Steven Meyer celebrating the Mass. Burial will be in the Ross Cemetery, rural Tokio, ND

Joseph John Sherman was born March 3, 1981, in Devils Lake, ND to Joseph R. Sherman and Elaine Ross. 

Joseph grew up in Fort Totten, ND where he attended Four Winds Community School and graduated in the class of 2000. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Music on March 8, 2024.

Joe was always traveling, exploring different states whenever he could. He always had a talent for music and went to New York to pursue his passion. 

He enjoyed watching professional wrestling shows, was an avid fan of video games and loved spending time with his friends and family. He always showed respect towards his family and elders. 

Joe is survived by his parents Joseph Sherman Sr., Elaine Ross; sisters Meredith Sherman, Amanda Sherman; adopted brother Bradley Vervalen; grandma Cora Iceman; nephews Calum Sherman, Rylei Sherman, Talon IronHawk, Kaius IronHawk, Marius Sherman; nieces Shayna Sherman, Tesa Sherman, NaJai Paulson, Nytrice Paulson, NyCembi Paulson; aunt Rowena Ross; uncles Mervel Sherman, Curtis Ross; also many cousins and extended family. 

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Raymond and Olivia Sherman, maternal grandparents John and Evelyn Ross, aunts Iris FourBears, Meredith LongTree, Mary Ann BlackBull; uncles Calvin Sherman, Glenn Ross, Peter Ross Jr., niece NyCoy Sherman-Paulson, cousin Tyron Ross. 

Pallbearers will be Talon IronHawk, Palmer Hopkins, Marcus Littlewind, Anthony Brown, Harry Hopkins, Chauncey Hopkins, and Darin Ross
