Judith K. “Judy” Ehnert, of Devils Lake formerly of Maddock ND passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Eventide Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake at the age of 70 years.
Judith Kay Ehnert, one of seven children, was born on May 16, 1955, in Maddock to Charles and Wilma (Lalum) Ehnert She grew up in the Maddock area, attended Maddock Public School and graduated from Maddock High School with the class of 1973. At an incredibly young age (3), Judy was a cheerleader for the Benson County Aggies. In high school she worked for Sabbe Flying Service, as a flagger for their aerial crop spraying business. After high school, Judy attended SSS (State School of Science) in Wahpeton, graduating as a certified dental hygienist in 1975.
Judy began working for a dentist in Langdon ND for a few years before moving to Steamboat Springs, Colorado. While living in Colorado Judy was employed with the Steamboat Springs Police Department as a dispatcher. She met Darrell McFarland, who was also with the Police Department, and they soon started a life together. They eventually moved to Las Vegas, married and established their home there and Judy worked as a contracted Dental Hygienist.
While living in Las Vegas, Judy was officially diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, a disease which had long been undiagnosed. She continued to work as long as possible and never gave up the fight to be as independent as possible. However, MS progressed and in 2003 Judy made the decision to move closer to family and entered the Lutheran Home in Devils Lake. She was the bright star, never give up, keep living the best life you can resident at the care center for 22 years.
Judy enjoyed traveling but especially enjoyed time spent with family and friends. Her 3 dogs, the” Boyz” were her constant companions and brought her much joy, comfort, and laughter through the years.
Judy was a baptized and confirmed member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Maddock. She never backed away from causes she believed in. She was Class President for 2 years and Student Council Member and President. In college, she served as the SSS Student Body President. Judy was a proud Maddock Bobcat, loved her family, had many dear friends, and believed in the promises of her Lord and Savior.
Judy is survived by her loving family, siblings Charles (Mary Ann) Ehnert, Bonney Lake, WA, Glenn Ehnert, Devils Lake, James (Bernie) Ehnert also Devils Lake, Janet (Dave) Lysne, Rogers, ND, husband Darrell “Mac” McFarland, Knoxville, TN, sister-in-law Bernice Ehnert, Edmond, OK, many dear nieces, nephews and their families.
She was reunited with her parents, brothers Jerry Ehnert and Curtis Ehnert, sister-in-law Linda Ehnert and twin nieces Lara and Lana Ehnert.

A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2025 at 1:30 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Maddock ND with Reverend Cassie Borges officiating.
