Julie Ann (Blueshield) Johnson, “Wic’anhpi Etkiya Mani Win” (Walks to the Stars Woman) 67 of Tokio ND passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND. 

The Wake for Julie will be on Thursday, March 30, 2023 at Dakotah Oyate Lutheran Church, rural Tokio ND beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a time of prayer and remembrance at 7:00 p.m.  The procession to Tokio will leave on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. from City Plaza, Devils Lake.

The funeral service will be on Friday, March 31, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Dakotah Oyate Lutheran Church with Reverend Larry Thiele officiating. The burial will be in the Native American Cemetery, rural Tokio at a later date. 

Julie was born March 30, 1955, the daughter of the late Abraham Blueshield and Violet Littleghost Blueshield.  She was raised in the Woodlake District, attended school in Tokio, Warwick High School, Central High School and Oak Grove High School in Fargo.

Julie worked for the Spirit Lake Tribe, Tribal Newspaper, Spirit Lake Casino, Sioux Manufacturing, Vocational Rehab and the Topper Motel in Devils Lake.

On August 7, 1973, Julie was united in marriage to Donray Guy.  From this union, their daughter Jacqueline Star Guy was born.  On July 4, 2007, Julie married Roland Johnson and they made their home in Tokio.

She was an avid beader, loved going to the casino, doing puzzles, reading, and diamond art projects. She loved her cats and dogs, collecting tea pots and knick knacks.

Julie will be greatly missed by her loving family including her husband Roland; daughter Jacki (Monte) Redfox; sisters June, Sheila, Darla (Larry), Karen (Kenny), Adeline (Duane), Joan (Troy), Valerie (Stanley), Delilah, Lynette, Lorna (Ron), Monica and Tammy; brothers Alvin, Kevin, Eric, Philip “Skip”, Harlan; stepdaughter Emma Thumb and her children Bryson and Breann; grandchildren Kersten, Wyatt, Tristan, Hailey, Montero, Montana, Monty, Jr and Shenoa; great grandsons Valdon, Riley, Dominic, Fulton and Easton Morin, Jayden Redfox, Montel Thompson; many beloved nieces and nephews and all of Julie’s relatives from Canada and South Dakota.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents Joseph and Julia (Powell) Blueshield; maternal grandparents George Littleghost and Sarah Young Bluecloud; great grandparents Martin Blueshield (Wahachaka-Toh), Mazanahomniwin, Joseph Powell and Hiuotankewin, HeyInk Paduta and  Makudutawin, Joseph Enos  and Etta Bluecloud; brothers Emerson, Faron, George, Peter, Joseph, Clayton, Ronnie, Rocky, Ambrose “Buddy”, Duane and Maynard; sisters MaryEllen, Sharon, Patty, Rachel, Sandy and Tina; aunties Rose Dubois, Joyce Smith, Theresa Greywater, Jean Blueshield, Mary Hall, Nora Duncan, Alice DuMarce, Agnes Young and Lorraine Young; uncles Jim Littleghost, Herbert Blueshield, Henry Dubois, Martin Blueshield. Arthur Young; grandson Valdon Redfox; nephews Devin Fox and Jonathan Thompson; nieces Lauren Ironhawk and Merle Ironhawk.

Pallbearers for Julie will be Wyatt Redfox, Monty Redfox Jr., Montero Redfox, Paul Thiele, Jaston Blueshield, Vandis Little. Sr., Joseph Blueshield, Cayden Feather, Macavelle Pearson, R.J. Pearson, Elijah Feather Jr., Kooper Longie, Chris “Sonny” Pretty Weasel, Billy Vivier, Jore Thomas, James Bear Jr., Tenneyson Blueshield Sr., Michael Kidder, Sean Guy; honorary pallbearers are Myra Pearson, Debbie Little, Ramona Leftbear, Bonnie Leftbear, Diane Lohnes, Junior Cavanaugh, Sam Merrick, Dallas and Renita Delorme, Daniel Redroad, Russell Brown, Alfreda Dunn, Rick and Melody Dubois, Jackie Yellow Tail, Helena Littleghost, Bud and Renita Shwa, Deeann Demarce, Esther Ironhawk, Bessie Ironhawk and Gloria Redroad, nieces Courtney BlackCloud, Ashley Anderson and CJ Anderson.
