Obituary

Kenneth W. Gerrard, 76 of Devils Lake, ND passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2026 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND.

Kenneth Wayne Gerrard, son of Wayne and Opal (Belt) Gerrard was born on November 13, 1949 in Cando, ND. He lived in the Forest River area of North Dakota and attended Midway Public School in Inkster, ND, graduating from Midway High School with the class of 1968.

Kenneth entered the United States Army in 1970 and proudly and honorably served his country until his honorable discharge on August 30, 1978. While in Military Service, Kenneth was stationed in Korea and Germany, putting his natural talent as a mechanic to good use.

While in Korea, Kenneth met and married Yong Ae Pok. Eventually Kenneth and Yong Ae would return to the United States where Kenneth completed his military service in Oklahoma and New Jersey. While living in Oklahoma, Kenneth and Yong Ae became the proud parents of a son Mark.

Eventually the family moved to Forest River, North Dakota and Kenneth worked as a mechanic for Heritage Ford in Grafton. About the mid 1990’s he began working full time as a farm laborer, mostly for his lifelong and great friends Gary and Liz Grzadzielewski until increasing health problems forced him to retire.

In retirement, Kenneth enjoyed watching TV, especially Western movies (John Wayne and Audie Murphy were his favorites), Rawhide and the Lone Ranger.

For the past 8 years, Kenneth felt so blessed to be able to live with and be cared for by his son Mark.

Kenneth was a self‑made mechanic who earned every scar and every skill, he served his country with grit and loved his family with everything he had.

Kenneth is survived by his son Mark of Devils Lake and granddaughter Max Gerrard; mother of his child Yong Ae Brian, Bemidji, MN; brother Rodney Gerrard, Forest River, ND; sister Yvonne (Mel) Armbrust also of Forest River; three nieces; one nephew; several aunts, uncles, and many cousins.

He was reunited with his parents Wayne and Opal and his brother Greg Gerrard.

Kenneth is in the care of the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake, ND. No services are planned at this time.
