LaDonna M. Dahlen

LaDonna Mae Dahlen, 80 of Devils Lake, ND passed away Saturday, August 23rd, 2025, at Eventide Care Center in Devils Lake.

Donna was the daughter of Iver and Inga (Flaskerud) Grondahl, born on December 19th, 1944, in Maddock ND. Growing up, she attended school in Maddock, graduating in 1962 and continued her education at a business college in Fargo ND.

She was united in marriage to Richard Dahlen on September 25th, 1965, in Maddock. Richard and LaDonna made their home in Devils Lake, where they raised their 3 children, James, John, and Jeffrey.

Donna worked for Central High School in the business office for a time out of college. She then stopped working outside the home and was able to stay home to raise their boys. Donna enjoyed spending her time volunteering at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, her favorite being making the many Norwegian goodies for the annual Christmas bazaar. She also enjoyed playing cards, quilting, doing puzzles and word searches, watching sports, and most of all spending time with her grandchildren. Donna loved attending area sporting events, basketball being her favorite. She got to enjoy many years of watching her sons and grandchildren play basketball, hockey, baseball, football and also figure skating. She spent many years helping at her son’s business, which included many jobs Donna enjoyed doing.

Donna is survived by her husband of almost 60 years, Richard Dahlen of Devils Lake; sons James (Debbi) Dahlen of Federal Way, Washington, John (Kim) Dahlen of Devils Lake, and Jeffrey (Jolene) Dahlen of Devils Lake; grandchildren Teila Dahlen, Federal Way, Kiersten (Carson) Wright, Seattle, WA, Cassandra (Levi) Volk, Devils Lake, Chris (Paige) Dahlen, Devils Lake, Zach (Maggie) Dahlen, Fargo ND, Josh Dahlen, Devils Lake , and Rachael Dahlen, Devils Lake; one great grandson Calvin Dahlen and two expected great grandchildren; sister Gyneth (Jerry) Sheets; brother Wendell (Gail) Grondahl; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Iver and Inga and brother Barry Grondahl.

Pallbearers for Donna will be Chris Dahlen, Zach Dahlen, Josh Dahlen, Levi Volk, Dave Brown, and Brent Grondahl. Jolene Dahlen will read Scripture.

There will be a gathering of family and friends on Wednesday, August 27th, 2025, at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a time of prayer and remembrance at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Service for Donna will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 28th, 2025, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake with Reverend Lori Pankratz officiating. Burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery following the funeral service. Funeral Service will be live streamed at facebook.com/stolafdevilslake

The family would like to thank the Eventide Care Center staff, who have cared for Donna so well over the last few years during her struggle with Alzheimer's Disease.
