Lenora M. Dammen

Lenora M. Dammen, 92 of rural Starkweather ND passed away on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at the Towner County Medical Center in Cando ND.

Mass of Christian Burial for Lenora will be on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at the Assumption of Mary Catholic Church in Starkweather ND with the Reverend Mathew Pamplaniyil celebrating the Mass. Burial will be in the Assumption of Mary Cemetery in the spring.

Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Friday, February 26, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. led by Deacon Ken Severinson.  Visitation on Saturday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass.

Lenora Magdeline Bukowski, the youngest of three children was born in rural Calio ND on October 22, 1928, daughter of Louis and Margaret (Roles) Bukowski. 

On February 17, 1947, Lenora was united in marriage to her sweetheart Oscar Dammen at Assumption of Mary Catholic Church in Starkweather.  They farmed together, side by side through the years until they retired in 2006.  Oscar passed away on November 16, 2021.  Lenora continued to live at the farm until her death. To this marriage 6 children were born.  Curtis (Jolene) Dammen, Shelly MN, Clayton (Darla) Dammen, Keith Dammen and Karen (Richard) Hanson all of Starkweather ND, Kathleen (Tim) Krebsbach, Terry MT and Christy (John) Peters, Bisbee ND; 16 wonderful grandchildren; 23 precious great grandchildren and numerous sweet great great grandchildren and several beloved nieces and nephews.

Lenora loved to bake, garden and crochet.  Even though she was of Polish and German heritage, she made the effort to learn how to make all of the Norwegian delicacies that her Norwegian husband and family so enjoyed and she made sure her children could carry on the traditions.  Lenora loved cats and had many at her side over the years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Oscar, brother and sister-in-law Clem and Florence Bukowski, sister and brother-in-law Leona and John Peterson, in-laws Ivar and Marie Dammen.
