Lindsey Nicole, 41, of Saint Michael, North Dakota, began her journey to the Spirit World on August 9, 2026, surrounded by her family and loved ones.

Over the past year, Lindsey faced an incredibly difficult journey after suffering a heart attack and stroke, followed by many painful complications and ongoing health challenges. Through it all, she showed incredible strength and determination, enduring more than anyone should ever have to. She fought hard until the very end, surrounded by the love of those who meant the most to her.

Lindsey was born on June 10, 1985, in Devils Lake, North Dakota, to Paul and Robin Lawrence. She grew up primarily on the Spirit Lake Reservation, where she made lifelong friendships and countless memories. Lindsey attended Devils Lake High School and Four Winds Community School, graduating from Four Winds with the Class of 2003. She later attended Cankdeska Cikana Community College. She gave college a try but soon realized she would much rather be out working—and Lindsey was never afraid to choose her own path.

Throughout the years, Lindsey held many different jobs and made friends wherever she went. She worked for Spirit Lake Head Start, Spirit Lake Casino & Resort, the Boys & Girls Club, Sacred Beginnings, and even had a short stint bartending in Sheyenne. She later worked for Spirit Lake Tribal Security and as a Community Health Representative (CHR) with Tribal Health. Her last, and perhaps one of her most meaningful roles, was serving as a QSP for her grandfather, James “Jim” Baker, caring for him until her own health began to change.

Everyone who knew Lindsey knew she had a personality all her own. She was fun, loving, spunky, outspoken, and never afraid to tell you exactly what was on her mind. You never had to wonder where you stood with Lindsey. She loved hard, protected the people she loved fiercely, and would do anything for them. She had a big heart and was always willing to share whatever she had with someone who needed it.

Lindsey loved spending time with her family and friends. She loved to joke around, sing, listen to music, and spend some time at the casino. She had many friends throughout her life and had a way of making people laugh with her humor and personality. She could be stubborn, she could be feisty, and she could definitely speak her mind—but those were some of the many things that made Lindsey, Lindsey.

Music was always a part of Lindsey’s life, and one song in particular carried a lifetime of memories. When Lindsey was just a toddler, she would have her grandpa drive her around so she could listen to “Centerfield” by John Fogerty on cassette tape. That memory stayed between them throughout her life. In her final days, Lindsey whispered to her grandpa, “Put me in, Coach.” A few simple words that carried more than forty years of memories between a granddaughter and the grandpa she loved so dearly.

Above everything else, Lindsey’s greatest love was her precious son, Noah. Being his mom was one of the most important parts of her life, and she loved him more than words could ever fully express. She loved spending time with him, loving-on him, joking with him, and watching him grow. Noah was her pride and joy, and the love they shared will forever remain a part of him.

Lindsey leaves behind her beloved son, Noah; her parents, Paul and Robin Lawrence; her grandfather, James “Jim” Baker; and her siblings, Challsey (Ben) Scallon; Paul (Caley) Lawrence Jr.; Robert (Mandi) Lawrence; Alison (Rick) Lawrence; and Melinda (Curtis) Lawrence.

She also leaves behind her uncles, Jay (Brenda) Baker, Sheldon (Brigette) Graywater, Ambrose “Gumby” Lawrence, Donald LaFrance, and Cletus Lawrence; and her aunts, Juanita Baker, Barbara Jackson, Diane (Jerry) Huwe, Roberta (Kirk) Sweeney, Linda (Raymond) Peltier, Debbie (Clayton) Peltier, Anna Flanagan, Lori (Ermen) Brown, Tammy (Dale) Fitzke, and Della Belgarde, along with her nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and the many friends she collected throughout her life.

Lindsey began her journey to join the many loved ones who went before her—her grandmothers, grandfathers, relatives, and friends who were waiting to welcome her home. Among them is her beloved best friend, Kara Jetty. We can only imagine the reunion that took place when Lindsey arrived. While our hearts ache here without her, there is comfort in knowing she is surrounded by those she loved and missed, free from the pain her body endured for so long.

Lindsey’s life cannot be summed up by the hardships she faced during her final year. She was a daughter, a mother, a sister, a granddaughter, a grandmother in every way that mattered, an auntie, a niece, a cousin, and a friend. She was laughter, music, stubbornness, jokes, love, and a little bit of sass all rolled into one. She loved her people fiercely, and she was fiercely loved in return.

Her family will miss her voice, her jokes, her singing, her laughter, her opinion (even the ones nobody asked for), and simply knowing she was there. There will forever be a space in our family that belongs only to Lindsey.

Although our hearts were not ready to let her go, we find comfort knowing she no longer has to hurt or fight. Her body can finally rest, and her spirit is free.

We love you, Lindsey. More than words could ever say. You will live on through Noah, through all of us, and through every story, laugh, song, and memory we continue to share.
