Lois D. Swenson

Lois D.  Swenson, 92 of Devils Lake formerly of the Brinsmade/Harlow area passed away on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at Eventide Devils Lake Care Center.

Lois Dorothy, daughter of Joseph and Emma (Nelson) Sandberg was born on July 18, 1929 in McCullen Township, Benson County, North Dakota.  She grew up in the Brinsmade/Harlow area where she attended school.

Lois married Ingvold Swenson on June 13, 1946.  They lived in Devils Lake for a time and Lois worked in the Tailor Shop, the Dairy Queen and also cleaned houses in the Lakewood area to help support the family.

In 1977, they moved to a farm near Leeds and were active members of the community.  Lois was the typical farm wife, helping with the daily chores of raising livestock, gardening, which included planting, weeding and processing the produce from that garden.  She didn’t quit canning until after her 90th birthday.  She was an excellent seamstress and sewed many of her children’s clothes and that also led to creating many beautiful quilts which she lovingly shared with family and friends.  She was that gracious hostess who was always baking, especially those favorite recipes of her children and grandchildren.  Lois was an active member Leeds 55 Club and the Leeds VFW Auxiliary.  Ingvold died on July 23, 1998.

After Ingvold’s death, Lois moved to Devils Lake to be closer to family.

Lois loved spending time with her family and watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow up and then to have a great great grandchild.  She loved to have the babies come visit her in the Home, it always made her day brighter.

Lois’s loving family include her children Laurice Swenson, Laura Halle, Terry Swenson and Sheri (Paul) Solberg all of Devils Lake; grandchildren Shane (Mindy) Swenson, April Halle, Chad Halle, Michael (Kelsie) Swenson, Steven Swenson, Linda Solberg and Amy Solberg; great grandchildren Josh, Landyn, Avery and Rylan Swenson, Taylor, Parker and Evabell Halle and Malcolm Hurd; great great granddaughter Raylynn Reeves; brother Nelson Sandberg also of Devils Lake and many nieces, nephews and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ingvold, son James Swenson, son-in-law Gary Halle, sisters Alice Schwols, Ellen Scott, Donna Bird and Carol Schwols, brothers John Sandberg, Albin Sandberg, Joe Sandberg and Curtis Sandberg.
