Loren John Brown February 8, 1983 – July 12, 2026

Loren John Brown, son of Leonard Brown Sr. and Twila Summers-Rough Surface, passed away in the early morning hours of July 12, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Loren was born on February 8, 1983 in Bismarck, ND. He was raised on the Spirit Lake Reservation, where he was cared for by his paternal grandparents, Stephen Brown Sr. and Clara Brown.

Loren attended Four Winds Community School, where he built lifelong friendships and created many lasting memories. He was known for his kind heart, his sense of humor, his ability to make those around him smile, and his willingness to help people whenever he could.

Throughout his life, Loren worked hard and took pride in every job he did. He worked in construction, the concrete industry, on oil rigs, and in landscaping, earning the respect of those who worked alongside him through his strong work ethic and dedication.

When he wasn’t working, Loren truly enjoyed life. He loved going to the movies, eating out at restaurants, spending time at the gym, and staying active. Whether he was working out, sharing a meal with family and friends, or simply enjoying a good time, Loren appreciated life’s simple pleasures. He had a fun-loving spirit, enjoyed making people laugh, and cherished the time he spent with those he loved.

Loren was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Stephen Brown Sr.; his maternal grandfather, Milton Summers Jr.; his maternal grandmother, Wilma American Horse-Summers; his beloved sister, Leonnae Brown; his brother, Samuel Rough Surface; and many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and other family members who welcomed him into eternal rest.

He is survived by his loving family. His son Ottawa Brown; daughter Sanchez Brown; mother of his children Roxanne Feather; paternal grandmother, Clara Brown.

He is also lovingly survived by his brothers, Leonard Brown Jr. and Theodore Rough Surface; and his sisters, Lorena Brown Joshua and Rosanna Rough Surface. Loren was a loving uncle to his nieces, Madisyn, Santasia, Kyleigh, Angelique, and Rainy; and his nephews, Leonard Brown III, Josiah, Nikolai, Robert, Dusty Jr., and Brian, all of whom loved him dearly and brought him great joy.

He is also survived by his paternal aunts, Larina Bugg, Stephanie Ramon, Gwendolyn Brown, Jacqueline Peltier, Celestine Brown, Elaine Brown, Twila Feather, and Carol Rena Brown; maternal aunts, Charlene, Anita, and Barbara; paternal uncles, Stephen Brown Jr., George Brown, and James Brown; maternal uncles, Alton, Cecile, Collins, Richard, Kenneth, and Everette; along with his numerous cousins: Darlys, Clarissa, Beverly, Audrey, Cyrena, Jacob, Jeffrey, Galen, Thomasina, Jennifer, Juan, Rena, Nikomi, Kimberly, Anthony, Mercedes, Jonathan, Carlin, Janelle, Eleanor, Derek, Michelle, Philip, Steven, Jay, Vernetta, Orlando, Magnus, Michael, Ivy, Marlene, Steven, Noel, Nolan, Lacey, George Jr., and Thomas. His maternal cousins include April, Skip, Melanie, Jennifer, Lance, Ryan, Tyler, Dustin, Marsha, Kimberly, Kara, Barbara, Alvin, Royce, Bryce, Wade, Alicia, Christopher, Thomas, Jarrett, Brent, and Paul, as well as many extended family members and dear friends whose lives were enriched by his presence.

Though Loren’s earthly journey has ended, the love he shared, the memories he created, and the bond he had with his family will live on forever. His spirit will continue to be carried in the hearts of all who loved him, and he will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and never forgotten.
