Louella Ann Thompson, daughter of Mary Jane (Grandbois) and Michael Thompson Sr. was born at Fort Totten ND on August 1, 1953. She grew up in the St. Michael area and attended Little Flower Mission School and St. Mary’s Academy.

In the early 1980’s, Lulu enlisted in the North Dakota Army National Guard. She served out of Camp Grafton and eventually enlisted in the Army Reserve. She worked as a heavy equipment operator for the 3662 Maintenance Company and while with the Reserve was stationed in Germany for a time. At the time of her honorable discharge on March 7, 1986 she had earned the rank of PFC.

While living back in North Dakota Louella worked many years in road construction as a packer and also with area electricians on various projects including the casino.

For the past 38 plus years, Lulu has shared a life of love, happiness and adventure with George Frederick.

Lulu had so many talents, so many hobbies, so many enjoyments in life. She loved hunting, fishing and playing pool. She loved to travel to different states, attending motorcycle rallies, riding in the rodeos, dancing in pow-wows, Minnie Princess, putting puzzles together, going for night time motorcycle rides with her loving partner, George. Together they would hit the casinos, trap minnows, garden and plant flowers around the house and the shop. Lulu loved visiting family and friends. She was always laughing and smiling. She loved spending time with her grandkids and great grandkids. She was someone you could confide in and she put the conversation in her vault, never to be heard or said again. (Oh, the secrets she must have had) Lulu had a big heart, a heart of love, a heart of caring. She always was willing to help anyone, anyway she could. She loved us all.

Lulu is survived by her precious family. Her partner George Frederick, daughter Laura (Melvin) LaCroix; son Anthony (Margaret) LaCroix; grandchildren Anthony TwoHearts, Destiny LaCroix, Daniel Wallace II, Paradise Wallace, Mercedes LaCroix and Xavier LaCroix; great grandchildren Jazzy, Myah, Bartholemew and Anastasia; sisters and brothers Lilly Owlboy, Alfred (Nita) Thompson, Sheila (Cody) Thompson, Robert “Kojak” (Kristi) Thompson; sisters-in-law Penny Holmen, Patty Fonder, Shirley Schultz and Paula Bertsch; many nieces, nephews, cousins and families.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Peter Belgarde Jr., Donnie Belgarde Sr., Mike “Buggs” Thompson Jr., Paul Thompson, Francis “Frenchie” Brown, sisters Shirley Belgarde, Beatrice Joramo and baby sister Janice, grandparents John and Gertrude Thompson, Florence and Fred Grandbois.
