LuAnn Schiele

LuAnn Schiele, 75 of Devils Lake ND passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, August 14, 2022 at Eventide Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake.

Louise Ann Metzger was born May 21, 1947, in Langdon, ND to Silverius and Madeline (Kartes) Metzger. She attended school in Minto Township, Wales High School, St. Alphonsus High School in Langdon, and graduated from Border Central, Calvin in 1965. She attended Lake Region Junior College and received her secretarial degree. On September 23, 1967 she and Jim Schiele were united in marriage, by her uncle, Father Alvin Kartes at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Wales ND.

Jim and LuAnn lived on the farm near Webster, ND from 1967 to 1984. She was a mother, homemaker, occasionally did part-time work in Devils Lake and conducted Leisure Home Parties for a number of years.  While on the farm she was a member of the local homemakers; played Bunco, played BINGO every Thursday evening in Lawton, with her neighbor Marge. She and Jim, for many years, bowled mixed doubles with dear friends, Gary and Lois Johnson in Devils Lake. Many weekend evenings were spent playing cards and eating nacho chips with lifelong friends Don and Sharon Stoeser.

While on the farm, she was a member of St. Benedicts Catholic Church, Rutten ND, where she taught CCD classes, and was a member of the Christian Mothers and served as a Eucharistic Minister. In Devils Lake, she was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and Christian Mothers. In her later years, she said the rosary daily with her husband, for various intentions.

She worked at First National Bank before she was married, and again after moving to Devils Lake in 1984; this time as a teller for 14 years. She was a para at Devils Lake Public Schools until facing early retirement because of health issues. She was a great cook; on the farm, the hired men were fond of her lunch items. During retirement LuAnn enjoyed traveling with her husband on the Western State Bank Good Neighbor Club trips.

Surviving LuAnn are her husband, Jim of Devils Lake; children Jamie (Tracy) Schiele of Suquamish WA, Lanny Schiele of Dickinson ND, Carli (Mike) Rauser of Bismarck ND and Perry Schiele of Jamestown ND; precious grandchildren Cory Waterman, Jadyn and Laci Rauser; siblings Steve (Jane) Metzger of Carrington ND, Linda (John) Benoit of Langdon, Bonnie (Randy) Carignan of Walhalla ND; brother-in-law Colin Fetsch also of Langdon along with many godchildren, nieces and nephews.
