Marvin H. Ewert, 94 of Lakota, formerly of Devils Lake, ND died on Sunday morning, February 13, 2022 at the Good Samaritan Society in Lakota, ND.

Visitation will be on Sunday, February 20, 2022 at the Gilbertson Funeral home from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 4:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, February 21st at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Parish Center, Devils Lake with the Very Reverend C. F. Wilhelm celebrating the Mass. Military Honors will be after the Mass. Burial will be in the Anamoose, ND cemetery at a later date. 

Marvin Harold Ewert, the son of Frank and Pauline (Drager) Ewert was born January 31, 1928 on a farm five miles north of Anamoose, ND. He attended school to the eigth grade and then worked on the family farm. He later acquired his GED and attended LRSC. He was very proud that he got A’s in all his classes. We teased him that it was because he had coffee with his instructors. Marvin graduated with a Civil Engineering degree and began his career with the Ramsey County Highway Department. He worked on the road crew in the summer. He plowed snow and worked in the main office drawing maps in the winter.

Marvin enlisted in the United States Army, January 23, 1951. He served in Korea and then transferred to the Army Reserve. While in Korea, he received the Purple Heart and the Silver Star for courageous action near Pangdang-dong-ni, Korea. Marvin, while contributing supporting fire to two of his comrades as they routed the enemy from reinforced bunkers received serious wounds. He continued advancing up the steep slope fighting with indomitable aggressiveness , until the object was secured. He was honorably discharged from Fort Gordon Georgia in 1958.

Marvin married Irene Martian on April 13, 1957 at Fort Gordon, Georgia. They lived in Anamoose, Webster, ND and St. Paul Park, MN before moving to Devils Lake where they lived for many years.

Marvin was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

Marvin is survived by his wife Irene, Lakota, ND, son, Richard Ewert Phoenix, Az., daughters, Pam Ewert and Pat Ewert both of Devils Lake, Terri (Roger) Gunderson, Devils Lake. Grandchildren Seth Ewert, Kelcee Ewert, and Christian (Layla) Ewert of Devils Lake, Laura Ewert, Mayville, ND,  Allison Ewert, Mitchel Ewert, Draven Ewert, Stephanie (Tim) Yager and Elizabeth (Ryan) Gibbons of Devils Lake. Great Grandchildren, Aiden, Mason, Tysen and Malina Ewert, Avery and Kayden Yager and Kalila Gibbons.  One Sister, Ruth Schmaltz, Bismarck.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, siblings; Josephine, Edward, Lawrence, Caroline, Leo, George, Arthur, Alfred (Fritz), Elizabeth, Walter, Margaret, and Hazel.

Urn Bearers will be Michael Lemer, Dean Lemer, Seth Ewert and Christian Ewert.
