Mary will be laid to peaceful rest in the Devils Lake Cemetery.

Mary Margaret Senger, daughter of Philip J. and Gunda H. (Dettling) Senger was born on September 25, 1937 at Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake ND. She was reared and educated in Devils Lake and would call Devils Lake her home for most of her life.

While still in high school, Mary worked at the Lake Theater and the Hollywood Movie Theater. She met her precious Richard Halldorson while working at the Hollywood Theater. It was love at first sight. It was also a chance to see a lot of movies for free.  After high school she worked in sales at the F.W. Woolworth (Dime Store) for several years.

Mary was united in marriage to Richard on September 9, 1958 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Devils Lake. They established their home here, lived, worked and raised their two sons.  In 1966 she started a career with Home of Economy and at the time of her retirement, 33 years later in 1999, she was the department manager for many of those years.  She wasn’t quite ready for full retirement, so she worked for Ramsey County Housing part time for several years.

Mary was a dedicated, hard-working employee, but first and foremost was a devoted wife, loving mother and that proud and adoring grandmother and great-grandmother.  Mary was such a talented cook and baker and she fed EVERYONE their favorite dishes week in and week out.  They enjoyed traveling and, if she met a friend or relative and found out their favorite food, she made it for them. Attending Hostfest each year was a special time for Mary and Richard and again, she would feed the masses from all the food she would bring along.  In the winter months they enjoyed traveling to Texas and Arizona, visiting with friends and family along the way. During the working years, a trip to Las Vegas was always one of the vacations they would take. When you got Mary away from the oven, she enjoyed tending to her yard and even eventually got into watching football and Twins baseball to the surprise of her family.

Mary was an active member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and the WELCA.

Mary loved her family with her whole heart. She wanted to be there always to take care of them and when health issues meant she needed to be cared for, it was very difficult for her. But she fought the good fight, she mourned the loss of her son Bradley, but knew he would be there to greet her when she was called home by her Lord and Savior.

Mary, dearest wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend: We shall miss you always, rest in peace.

Mary’s beloved family include her husband of 64 years, Richard; son Steven (Donna) Halldorson all of Devils Lake; grandsons Nicholas (Yoonjung) Halldorson, Seoul, South Korea and Alex Halldorson, Devils Lake and granddaughter Shana (Lawrence) Hegland, West Fargo ND; great-grandsons Aidan Halldorson and Logan Halldorson and great-granddaughter Everette Mae Hegland; sister-in-law Kitty Senger, Tomah WI; several nieces, nephews and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents Philip and Gunda, son Bradley and brother Philip Senger Jr.
