Mary Ann Mac Donald, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Altru Hospital, Devils Lake, ND.

Visitation for Mary Ann will be held on Thursday, September 3rd at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. The Rosary will be led by the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and Reverend Mr. Ken Severinson will officiate the Scripture Service. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, September 4th, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake with burial in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery. A time of fellowship to follow at the Parish Center following the graveside service.

Mary Ann was born on February 2, 1938, to John and Regina (Schiele) Eisele. She spent her early years on the family farm near Crary, North Dakota, where she attended the Noonan Township School, rural Crary through the tenth grade. She later moved to Devils Lake to complete her junior and senior years at St. Mary’s High School.

Mary Ann married James Mac Donald, and together they built a life centered on faith, family, and service. They were blessed with six children: Kent, Kevin, Danny, Mary Jo, Mike, and Melissa. Her family was her greatest joy, and she devoted her life to nurturing, supporting, and loving them.

Throughout her life, Mary Ann was known for her deep faith and generous spirit. She was active in numerous church and community organizations, including Women’s Aglow, Catholic Daughters, Ramsey County Right to Life, the Senior Companion Program, Eucharistic Adoration, Parents without Partners, and Beginning Experience. She also assisted with Eucharistic Ministry to the homebound and participated in many other service organizations and ministries. Her commitment to helping others and improving her community earned her recognition as an Unsung Hero.

Mary Ann worked in a variety of roles throughout her life, including employment with Rexall Drug, the Artclaire Hotel, Mann’s Department Store, Home of Economy, an insurance office, S&L Clothing Store all in Devils Lake. No matter where she worked, she was known for her kindness, strong work ethic, and friendly smile.

Family was the foundation of Mary Ann’s life. She shared a special and lifelong bond with her four sisters, cherishing the love, laughter, and memories they created together. She treasured gatherings with family and friends and found joy in serving others whenever she could.

Mary Ann will be remembered for her unwavering faith, compassionate heart, dedication to service, and unconditional love for her family. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched, the example she set, and the many acts of kindness she shared throughout her life.

Mary Ann is survived by her children, Kent Mac Donald, Tualatin, OR, Mary Jo Mac Donald, Devils Lake, Mike Mac Donald (Rosana), Myakka City, FL, and Melissa (Steve) Moser also Devils Lake; her grandchildren Dylan Moser, Grand Forks, ND, Alexis Moser (Oliver), Medford, OR, and Kali Mac Donald of Anderson, South Carolina; her sisters Betty Goeser and Jo Olson of Devils Lake, Hattie (Dave) Mac Donald, Lake Oswego, OR and Eileen Burt, Tigard, OR; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her sons Kevin and Danny Mac Donald, her children’s father James Mac Donald, her parents John and Regina Eisele, brothers-in-law Darrel Burt, Owen Goeser and Earl Olson, along with her father-in-law and mother-in-law Morrison and Louise Mac Donald, and other loved ones who welcomed her into eternal life.

Mary Ann’s family is grateful for the many friendships, prayers, and acts of kindness shown throughout her life. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
