Maxine M. Erickstad, of Starkweather ND passed away on Friday, December 15, 2023 at the age of 88.

Visitation at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake ND on Thursday, December 21, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 5:00 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, December 22, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at the Assumption of Mary Catholic Church in Starkweather with burial in the church cemetery.

Maxine Margaret was born on January 15, 1935 in East Grand Forks, Minnesota, the daughter of Max and Florence (Haggarty) Griggs. she attended Reynolds High School and graduated with the class of 1953. After high school Maxine continued her education and became a Registered Nurse.

After becoming an RN, Maxine worked as a nurse in North Dakota for a few years before moving to Santa Monica, California where she worked in the Pediatric Department at St. John's Hospital for 8 years.

Maxine returned to North Dakota and on October 5, 1963, she was united in marriage to Robert "Bob" Erickstad in Reynolds, ND. They established their home in Starkweather where they lived, worked, and raised their family. Robert and Maxine were married for 41 years until Robert's passing in May of 2005.

Maxine was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Assumption of Mary Catholic Church and the Altar Society through the years.

 Maxine liked to spend time sitting on her deck watching the birds and enjoying nature, reading, doing crossword puzzles and spending time with her grandchildren.

Maxine is survived by her loving family; her sons Craig Erickstad, Fargo ND, Kevin Erickstad, Devils Lake, Gary Erickstad, Starkweather, Jason Erickstad, Pelican Rapids, MN; daughters Renae Braaten and husband Kyle, Summerfield, Florida and Terri Schuler and husband Gary, Cando ND; granddaughters Halle Schuler and Natalie Braaten; grandson Brady Schuler; sister Patricia Griggs, East Grand Forks MN; sister-in-law Ellen Griggs, Grand Forks ND; many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert, brothers Lew Griggs and his wife Pat and Larry Griggs, sister Rosemary and her husband Donald Wold.
