May Fleisher passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at Eventide Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake. 

Funeral Services for May will be on Monday, June 1, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake with burial in the Devils Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Gilbertson Funeral Home on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until time of service. 

May Mikkelson Fleisher was born on April 5, 1934 at Devils Lake, ND. May’s mother died during child birth and May was adopted into the Oscar and Tina Mikkelson family at the age of 3 weeks.

May was raised on the family farm at Garske, ND and attended grade school at Garske. She graduated from Devils Lake Central High School in 1952. She then attended Mayville State Teacher’s College. While there, May met Don Fleisher and they were married on June 10, 1954.

May and Don spent their teaching careers in North Dakota continuing until 1963. At that time Don joined the US Customs Bureau and they lived at the Sarles, ND Port of Entry. Due to Don’s death in 1989, May moved to Devils Lake.

May’s loving family include her son Tony and his wife Leisha of Sunburst, Montana; grandson Todd (Addie) Fleisher; granddaughter Nicole (Lee) Walker; great grandchildren Nash, Lee, and a baby boy soon to be born and Ruger; several nieces and nephews.

She was reunited with her parents, husband Don Fleisher, brothers Russell Mikkelson, Vincent Mikkelson, Clarence Peterson and John Peterson, sisters Mildred Simpson (Carson) and Evelyn DeVany (Roland).
