Michael Jay was born on August 3, 1955, in Devils Lake the son of James “Jay” and Delores “Del” (Wagner) McCanna. Micky was reared and educated in Devils Lake, attending Central High School. As a young man, he went to work at “Del’s Drive-In” to help support the family.

Micky married his high school sweetheart, Maria Anne Solga on November 13, 1976, in Devils Lake. They lived, worked, and raised their family together through the years. Maria died on February 3, 2005.

After Del’s closed, Micky began working in the health care field. His kind, caring and patient demeaner were valuable traits when he worked as a CNA at the Good Samaritan Care Center and Heartland Care Center. For many years, Micky worked with REM and had just recently retired from LRC.

Micky was an exceptionally talented musician and was the drummer for several bands including “The Bee Jays,” “Reckless” and “Cross Country”. He loved the “band scene” but had to retire due to carpel tunnel issues.

Micky had a passion for classic cars and was always part of “Devils Run.” He was a motorcycle enthusiast, so along with good friends Jay Tabor, Fran Schumacher and Rich De’Arton they were known as the “Over the Hill Gang” because they were riding Hardleys.

Micky had so many losses in his life, but felt so very blessed to have his son Jay always there for him and to have so many loyal friends. Micky will be forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
