Muriel L. Jack (Hoffmeyer)

Muriel L. Jack, 89 of Devils Lake, ND passed away on Sunday afternoon, June 16, 2019 at Eventide Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake.

Muriel Lorraine, daughter and one of nine children of Lorenzo and Nita Floe Hoffmeyer was born on October 23, 1929 at St. John, North Dakota. She was reared and educated in the Rolla/St. John area.   Being from a large family, Muriel helped her mother and siblings with the household chores and caring for the younger members of the family.

Muriel was married to her sweetheart, Harold Carl Jack on September 12, 1948 at Devils Lake. They established their home on the Jack farm where they lived, worked side by side farming and ranching and raised their family through the many years.  Muriel always kept the home fires burning as Harold also worked off of the farm for many years.

Muriel and Harold were Foster Parents to many children and were Respite Care Providers. For several years, Muriel owned and operated an Ice Cream Parlor out of the old creamery building.  She loved the interaction with people and nothing brought more smiles to others than an ice cream cone or malt. After retiring from all their other jobs, Muriel and Harold were partners at the Pawn Shop in Devils Lake.

Muriel was a life member of the Rebekah’s and VFW Auxiliary. She also enjoyed serving on the Election Board for many years in the Lake Region area.

Muriel was an avid fisherman, ice and summer fishing, and especially loved spending time at the lake, first at Creel Bay and then as the waters rose at Peterson’s Resort. Everyone knew they were always welcome at the lake to enjoy a good meal, good conversation and a good time with family and friends.

We are thankful for so many years as a family and treasure all the memories we hold close to our hearts.

Muriel is survived by her loving family. Her children Richard (Robin) Jack, West Fargo, ND, twins Sandra (Doug) Ginther, Lakota, ND and Cindy (Kent) Quam, Devils Lake; grandchildren Shelley (Paul) Wittrock, Jamie (Shari) Jack, Trish Coleman, Scott Coleman; Olivia (Brian) Kraft, Leslie (Roger) Wentz; Christopher (Kris) Quam, Cameron Quam; great grandchildren Casey, Shawn, Nicholas, Brooke, Jordon, Christian, Trinity, Anna, Isaac, Casandra, Preston, Bailey and Emili; brother Buzz (Rose) Hoffmeyer, Colorado; sisters Murl Anderson, Minnesota and Judy (Bob) Mosley and Muriel’s niece Lorrieann Mosley all of Florida and other beloved nieces, nephews and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Harold on April 16, 2019; brothers and sister Howard, Allen, Dale and William Hoffmeyer and Jeannette Turpin; in-laws Carl and Olive Jack and brother-in-law Cecil Jack.
